Hatters lead 23-15 after 1.

This is the Stetson team that lost six in a row before beating a DII school. Shocked Laughing

I think Stetson has the right idea defensively. Basically playing off the outside players and collapsing inside.

It took HW an entire quarter to call off the ineffective full court press.

Confused

They really, really do. Their defense is downright pathetic, and is there an offense?

38-22 H

Rennia Davis is looking especially terrible on defense. They all seem lax and off.

I didn't see the OkSt. game. Assume they played better than this. Sometimes there, sometimes not? Certainly doesn't look like #10!

I assume they thought they would win by just showing up. Interested to see if they wake up in the second half. And Stetson's scout seems pretty darn good. Not like they can match up athletically.

Ok, Abby Walters is a not-real-quick shooting guard, and she has made two or three baseline drives against the Tenn interior defense.

42-27 6:58

ETA: it's ADDI Walters.

My apologies. Very Happy

Stetson going thru an oopsie here. The great Tenn offense (composed of crashing into the lane and hoping to get a foul called) is rolling.

Well, this will give Tara some good tape to examine.

That type of halftime locker room has been fairly common for Tenn even before Pat retired.

In the old days pure athleticism could win you a lot of games. Things have changed a bit but athleticism still wins you quite a few.

True. There was a time that Tenn would have the best 6 or 7 athletes in a game. But even before Pat retired that had ended. Pat knew she couldn't just out-physical teams anymore and tried to learn a new offense but never figured it out.

sometimes I wonder how those athletes get passing grades. Maybe they're not as dumb as they play on the floor. And actually I've heard some of them speaking and they seem to at least be able to adequately verbalize. Does it just came down to coaching? They don't seem to have an offense...or really a defense other than pressure the ball. Several of their rebounds today were not by positioning but by being taller than the opponent and reaching over their backs.

While their offense could use some work, it's their woeful M2M defense that's going to lose them a bunch of games this season. Their posts aren't going to match up well with players like Shepard, McCowan, and Brown, their freshmen are still learning, Jackson loses her man on a regular basis, and Davis is appallingly bad in the M2M. I don't think she's ever seen a fake that she didn't fall for...anyone on this board could get by her to get a good shot off.

I have to give this group a lot of credit for some gritty, come-from-behind wins though (even if they shouldn't have been behind in the first place). Recent Tenn teams would have folded and slunk off the court. This team digs in and hangs tough, and Westbrook has become a real go-to player.

Either Holly or Bridgette must have scorched their ears during halftime, because they came out SMOKING in the third quarter and reeled off something like 22 unanswered points. I think they were lazy in the first half, figuring that Stetson were a bunch of nobodies they could beat easily, and got nervous when they found out that wasn't the case. Not a good sign.
