Pretty terse statement. No hint as to why he's leaving. So Agler to Dallas?

Yes odd indeed. Signed extension last year.

Mechelle Voepel just tweeted that he resigned at the beginning of the month and the media has been sitting on it since the Sparks didn't make an announcement.

The "media" sitting on news because they want to defer the organization's timeline.

I am not asking for much from sports "journalists," but seriously?

The plot sickens. Sparks not announcing it. Media sitting on it. No reason given. Signed a multi-year before the 2018 season. Seems to get more strange by the minute.

A sure sign he's going into witness protection. Wink

Brian Agler resigns as Sparks coach

http://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/25417898/brian-agler-resigns-los-angeles-sparks-coach

Voepel got an interview with Agler.

Quote:
Agler, 60, said he wants to continue coaching. He would be open to the pro or college levels but said that after 20 years in the WNBA, that would be his preference. He said he is also open to going overseas to coach.

The Dallas Wings fired Fred Williams near the end of this past season and elevated assistant Taj McWilliams-Franklin to finish out the year. Agler may be a candidate for the Wings job but said he could not talk to any potential employer until Dec. 1.

Hey Wings, it is already December 1st down here. Would you like me to call him on your behalf?

It'd be very cool if the Wings front office did the NBA Free Agency thing of being on his doorstep at 12.01am in whatever region the contract applies. It's like when Washington hired Thibault - if you're looking for a new head coach and one of the best happens to become available, go hire them immediately.

From the article posted by Shades:

Quote:
"I just think that sometimes, it's just time," Agler told espnW on Friday. "It's probably best for everybody involved. I really enjoyed my four seasons I was there. The team, they're great players and tremendous people. Strong and good ownership. Really good front office. I can only say positive things.

Great players, good owners, good front offices. So why is he leaving? His feet are saying something different.

The Wings are the only team w/o a coach now. Not much of a market now for coaches. (BTW - suppose the Sparks will hire Amber Stock, Fred Williams, or Vicki Johnson?)

If I were the Indiana Fever, I’d be tempted to explore hiring Agler.

Pros for Agler at Indy:
*He could be both GM & coach
*Close to his home base of Ohio

Pros for Agler at Dallas:
*Good roster/young assets

Just seems mysterious as to why he resigned. Did another team offer him more $$$? College offer? Retirement?

The timing is strange too. He didn't leave right after the season ended.

I'm wondering if there might a personal or family reason why he left. Hopefully, it's not a health-related issue.

I think he's right, though. Sometimes it does just get stale, and the team needs to hear a different voice. And maybe some of the players were divas, and/or Penny Toler was a nightmare to deal with, but when you've just walked out the door after the end of a pretty successful run - and are hoping for another job at some point - you're not going to badmouth everyone on the way out.

Could just be that CP3 wears out coaches. She's played 11 WNBA seasons and had six different coaches.

Not to mention getting left off Team USA for "mysterious" reasons.
