Thanks, stever. Interesting story--I'd never really known much about her. I find it a bit sad that any religion might impinge on a youngster's pathway in a sport. I also read Candice Wiggins' story that was available there, too. It certainly seems she's gotten the Religion *bug*, too.

I heard a long interview with Bilqis sometime back on the radio while I was driving someplace or other. It was quite fascinating and very measured. And Howee, in her case I wouldn't call it the religion "bug". She grew up Muslim and it was always a part of her life. Being hijabi was just an extension of who she is, just as it is with fencing gold medalist Ibtaj Muhammad. Candace Wiggins is a whole other story.
