(I split this off because I think it's worth its own thread)

Nice move, Nuggets

I wonder what she is actually going to do. Basketball operation could mean anything from hiring and firing GM's and coaches, to making sure the game balls are inflated correctly and the light bill for the arena is paid.

Awesome! I'm so proud of our ladies. Recently, so many have been quite proactive about preparing for life after bball. It's a beautiful thing!

So this seems to suggest she isn't looking to get into coaching after her playing days.

There's a little more in this article.
Quote:
Since retiring from playing overseas during the WNBA's offseason, Bird has used the winter to check out possible post-playing careers. Most notably, she has broadcast women's college basketball games for ESPN. However, she figured getting into coaching or a front-office role would have to wait until after her career.

"I never thought of myself in a place to really seek that out because I was still playing," Bird said. "I shouldn't sit here and say this was my end goal, but of course coaching has always crossed my mind, of course what it takes to build a championship team now that I've been part of a few, it always crosses my mind."

LI's Sue Bird among women coaches, execs who are knocking on NBA's door

Quote:
With Becky Hammon becoming Gregg Popovich's top assistant with the San Antonio Spurs and the Indiana Pacers hiring Kelly Krauskopf to be the league's first female assistant general manager, there is an air of opportunity for women in the NBA.

Quote:
Bird, who helped lead Seattle to a WNBA title this past summer, is spending her “offseason” working as an associate in basketball operations for the Denver Nuggets. She is one of more than 20 current or former WNBA players and coaches who are working in the NBA or G League this season.
