My big ACC prediction is that Syracuse will finish 2nd above Louisville. They both have star guards, but Syracuse is deeper, bigger, and has better shooters outside of those guards.

I'm waiting to see whether anyone on Louisville other than Durr can score. Having Hines-Allen was important. I don't see a replacement. Being so dependant on one player is a major vulnerability against good opponents. I expect to see a lot of box-and-one when they play ND.
Louisville is still going to win nearly all their games and can probably beat anyone on a given day.

We will see if Duke's loss to Northwestern was an "anomaly."

His objectivity and analysis took a bit of a hit with me in this write up. I don't see how you can write honestly about the FSU loss to LSU without mentioning their scoreless second quarter. And if you're going to talk about Miami's prospects going forward, you have to mention the need for Mompremier to stay out of foul trouble.

And "McCallie has always excelled at synergy." I think when the team is less than the sum of its' parts, it's not called "synergy."

So this writer is saying Clemson's wins over Oklahoma, Illinois and Belmont were "blah" and then marveling at their wins over High Point and Rhode Island? Okay...

Nice write up of the top 2/3 of the ACC.
Duke now in the bottom third of the ACC. Can play their way up to the bottom half. That pretty much sums up where JPM's Duke is: playing UP to the bottom half of the ACC.

Basically any Clemson wins are a spectacular step up from their recent past. If they actually win some in league, that will be even more spectacular.

And the elephant in the ACC WBB room is just how horrific the two former powers of the ACC - Duke and UNC - now are. Both programs are suffering from subpar coaching but the reasons they each have noncompetitive coaches are different.
Duke AD gave Coach JPM another extension two years ago and not one person can explain why. The program has continued the downward trend that started when McCallie arrived at Duke, with the elite eights and top three recruiting classes being a mere blip in the surge toward mediocrity. Duke has now reach the outcome they've been destined for since JPM's hired 11 years ago. Opening the ACC season 0-5 hasn't happened in many decades, but that appears to be the new normal as long as this coach is at Duke.
At UNC, Hatchell has had great success, though nobody can figure out exactly how. She reached 1,000 career wins after losing a season to her personal bout with leukemia. But the scandal brought down the program in a way her leukemia couldn't. With the NCAA being too wimpy to punish the money making men's basketball program, and due to the clearest ethics violation being the advisor to women's basketball, the WBB program took the biggest hit. Hatchell's oversight over the program was a target that led to the transfer out of an entire top recruiting class and they have not recovered from that. Word is Hatchell was retained so she could get her 1,000th win, plus she did win a National Championship. But she can no longer recruit top players and whatever else she used to do to produce winning teams seems to be gone with the wind.
Bottom line is both programs are currently mediocre, bottom third in the league. Both teams are seeing declining attendance to go with declining play on the floor. Neither team shows any sign of improving until a coaching change is made.
With the Duke campus literally over my back fence, I have refused to watch this debacle in person for five years, after 30 years of attending almost every home game (except when my daughter was born in February one year) plus traveling to as many away games as I could muster. Despite the program spending more than ever before to promote the games, including making a number of games every season essentially free (bring a toy for free admission), this team is getting close to playing in front of player families and a few friends of the players. That was the situation 30 years ago when my city league team's kazoo band provided the only organized cheering for games. This is the program Coach G built and the program Coach JPM demolished.

I think UNC/Sylvia has a similar issue in some regards to Tenn. The game has changed so much over the past 20 years but they are still trying to win with the same gameplan they used 20 years ago. For UNC, it's an attempt to run the other guys out of the gym without playing much defense.

True, but I think Hatchell's approach is less outdated because it assumes the ability to score at a high rate. That's still modern and they certainly aren't alone in the "roll them out and play playground" no-defense approach. It just requires Hatchell to keep recruiting scorers. I think the academic scandal has made that more difficult.
Pat's "rebound and defend" approach doesn't work any more because when you face a Notre Dame or Louisville or Oregon or Maryland or UConn that can rapidly pile up points, the Pat-model team just doesn't have enough scorers to respond. It's obsolete. All the elite teams are recruiting elite scorers and designing offenses to free up those scorers, either in the half court or in transition, in the paint or at the arc.

Hypothetical situation...
If NC State wins its final two games (which would include a win over Louisville), the team will finish at 13-3. Given the preseason and midseason injuries to the Wolfpack, that would be an incredible accomplishment for Wes Moore's squad.
But Amanda Butler has done a tremendous job in her first season at Clemson. If Clemson wins its final game (at Duke), it will finish the ACC at 9-7. Clemson has not had a winning ACC record since 2001-02, the year of its last NCAAT appearance. In fact, Clemson has had only one season of more than 4 ACC wins (and it was 5) in the last 13 years.
If this occurs, for whom would you vote for ACC COY - Wes Moore or Amanda Butler? What if NC State finishes at 11-5 in the ACC or Clemson finishes 8-8?

Clemson can finish 10-6 with win @ Duke (they won game 9 Sunday to stand at 9-6)

I think it's a 3 way race, not just 2. I don't know how you can ignore Katie Meier in this discussion with wins over both Notre Dame and Louisville, especially if Miami beats NCSt in their season-ending matchup. I don't think anyone saw that coming. They also beat Cuse and split with FSU, but lost to Clemson. But wins over all of the other of the top 6 in the conference?
A good argument can be made for any of the three, indeed I wrote here in favor of Butler recently.
