You do know that Nneka has barely played a second at the SF position so far right.. i doubt that is going to change.. |
And Loyd's been pretty worthless just in general.
All 12 US players warming up, by the way. Whether they'll all play is another question. |
You're not watching closely enough if you think Loyd has been "pretty worthless." |
Being a slightly better defender than Taurasi or Plum ain't worth a whole hell of a lot. Or am I meant to be excited about the 30% shooting for 4pts per game?
For what it's worth, I'm watching the games from about 20ft away. |
Thank you Richyy for providing eye witness accounts!!! On TV/stream, Loyd hasn't looked like a lock for any USA team in the future. Clarendon and Plum can both back up PG, which gives each higher value than Loyd. And then there's the 'no-shows' of C.Gray and Skylar.
USA's biggest strength (by a lot) is having two 6'5 players who can hit the three with several strong options at PF (NO,AW,TC), with AW & TC able to back up center against anyone except Liz.

The strength of this team is the front court. Stewart, Wilson, Griner, &
Delle Donne in that order. Charles is a great backup for Griner. Ogwu-
mike & Tuck as the small forwards. Liz Cambage is the ONLY non-
American player at this tournament that would make the Team USA
roster.
I believe that this rotation will have the best chance of outscoring Liz and
the Aussies by 10 to 15 points.
First Rotation
1. Kelsey Plum PG 20 min
2. Diana Taurasi SG 20 min
3. Neka Ogwumike SF 20 min
4. A'ja Wilson PF 20 min
5. Brittney Griner C Must play 20 to as much as 30 minutes
5 to 8 min per qtr.
The second rotation will have the sole task of protecting the lead.
Second Rotation
1. Layshia Clarendon G 20 min
2. Sue Bird SG Must play 20 to 24 minutes
5 to 6 min per qtr.
3. Elena Delle Donne F 20 min
4. Breanna Stewart F 20 min
5. Tina Charles C 20 min
Can play in relief in either rotation.
1. Morgan Tuck SF
Benched until further notice.
Jewel Lloyd PG

Plum's lost the backup PG spot to Clarendon, never mind being the starter; Nneka's not playing any SF whatsoever; Sue Bird's a point guard, obviously. Y'know, just to get started. |

In my haste, I FORGOT to edit my post.
Bird PG.
Plum's lost the backup PG spot to Clarendon, never mind being the starter:
Team USA brought 5 guards. IF your assessment of Jewell Loyd is correct,
Team USA has two guards. One backup guard & one backup to a backup
guard.
Nneka's not playing any SF whatsoever: Coaching Decision

Why would they play Nneka at the SF when she is not a SF |
In fairness, Stewart isn't one either and she's been there for most of this tournament. |

Not even a close comparison, Stewart plays out there way more than Nneka and that is the way the Storm play. Nneka and the Sparks don't play that way.
