Gruda leading all scorers with 8 early as France is level with Etats Unis after the first quarter.

United States leads 30-27 at the half. France stormed to a 6-0 run to close out the half and cut a 9 point lead to 3. Sandrine Gruda leads all scorers with 10, Taurasi has 8, and Plum and Johannes both have 6.

Looks like the French gave Epoupa the night off (at least I hope she's not injured). Wonder if that was intentional to avoid giving the US a direct look at a player who can change their style of play with her pace. She's likely to get most of the PG minutes ahead of Bernies and Duchet.

In case Team USA is reading this thread, here is a "scouting report."

I wonder why Epoupa hasn't given the WNBA a try?

Loyd can defend her. Epoupa is still to erratic to play 30+ minutes IMO.
And you can still play a zone against them because she isnt a good shooter.

I remember Epoupa regularly blowing past both Moriah Jefferson and Alexis Jones in a U19 game. This was pre-surgery for both Americans, so they were pretty fast back then. You can't match Epoupa's quickness. However, she's tiny so you can take advantage of her on the other end by posting up or otherwise shooting over her -- similar to the way WNBA teams exploited Temeka Johnson or Ivory Latta. On defense, as Michelle pointed out, Epoupa usually won't hurt you from the outside so it's easier to corral her.

Yeah, Epoupa's yet to take that next step into genuine top-level consistent threat. But she does give them a different dimension. Bernies has never particularly impressed me, and I'm not sure I've ever seen Duchet play (she's only 20). Replacing a legend like Dumerc is still an ongoing process.

Epoupa will probably meet Ms. Griner in the paint.

Do we know yet if she was actually injured or just given the night off?

She's in Tenerife as part of their final 12 and looks pretty happy about it, so she's probably fine: https://twitter.com/OliviaEpoupa/status/1042155377759072257
