Tamari Key, 6-5 C, Cary HS (NC-2019), has announced her commitment to Tennessee; her other finalists were Duke, Florida State, Louisville, and Virginia Tech.
https://twitter.com/Raoul_000/status/1019298594288013313
This is a big recruiting coup for Tennessee, but a HUGE miss for Duke.
Tamari Key is part of the Carolina Flames AAU program, which has a good number of Top 100 kids across multiple recruiting classe:
#7 - Saniya Rivers (2021)
#52 - Tamari Key (2019)
#80 - Anya Poole (2020)
#84 - Teonni Key (2021)
*** Updated rankings per Collegiate Girls Basketball Report
To lose out on a highly ranked in-state recruit has to hurt Duke's Joanne P. McCallie, but to lose out on a pipeline to an in-state AAU program with other highly ranked players could have ripple effects for the Duke program.

That's two bigs for the Lady Vols, as they also got that girl from WV whose name I can't remember right now....Emily something, who is also 6'5.

.
Even in the Goestenkors years, Duke seemed to not be in on the Carolina AAU pipeline. Gail was always tapped into the national scene with extra attention on DMV (which McCallie has not been able to maintain). Aside from that maybe Key was worried about playing time at Duke. The Devils will feature 7 post or partial post players on the roster when she would have arrived in Durham with only Leonna Odom and Emily Schubert set to graduate in 19. It's not really an attractive situation from a playing time standpoint independent of whatever other factors may have figured into the decision.

Kennedy Tucker, a guard out of Arkansas who verballed to Mississippi State has reopened her commitment. Vic has three schollies with which to fill or not to for 2019 and no seniors on the roster that season.

UCLA lands Charisma Osborne. Very strange because they already signed pg Kiara Jefferson in 2018 and in 2019, they already signed Jaden Owens who is a point who is higher ranked than Osborne on ESPN but lower ranked on PN. All are approximately the same size so there could be trouble.

If you gotta have trouble, let "too many talented players" be that trouble.

If Osborne is 5'10" and the other two are that big as well, they can easily play a three guard lineup.

Osborne is definitely not that tall, maybe 5'7" and Owens is even smaller.
Too many talented players, especially points and only one ball is not the best kind of trouble.

Maybe not, but it's definitely not the worst kind of trouble. Not enough talented players is worse trouble than too many of them.

Jada Moss, 5-10 G, St. Mary’s HS (Stockton, CA–2019), has announced her commitment to Grand Canyon (WAC)
Link:

St. Mary's has a great reputation as a powerhouse program. Dan Olson (Collegiate Girls Basketball Report) ranks Moss as the 296th best player in the class and the 77th best shooting guard.
Good for Coach Nicole Powell for picking up a commitment from such a storied program.

I see Haley Jones still has Stanford on her list (along with the expected and more likely target destinations). Wondering if Clay can tell us if she deserves her #1 ranking. That would give us one heckuva class with 4 in the top 50 including #1. The downside - Pat would be right about us having better incoming players than his beloved UCLA. But I could live with that downside.

Haley Jones is really, really good. She's 6-0 or 6-1, can shoot threes, handle the ball and defend one through four (though the four has to be on the smaller side, and the one on the slower side) at the P5 level. Very high basketball IQ (dad's a coach), played for excellent coaches in high school and club, and has won at all levels.
I think the question is how much athleticism does she have. She's got a lot, maybe more than enough, but until she plays against 22-year-olds, I don't think we'll know for sure whether she'll just be a good P5 player, an elite P5 player or an all-American.

Elizabeth Scott from Klein Oak high school in Texas has committed to Oklahoma, she’s a 6’1 Forward ranked number 9 by Prospect Nation, but ESPN has her at number 76. |

Stanford has great players! They had great players last year! They're gonna have great players this year! And next year! This shouldn't ever be a controversial statement!

Word is that Jones applied and was admitted (some time ago already) to Stanford. So there's a chance. She seems to be planning to take all her official visits before deciding.
