Texas freshman Sedona Prince will miss the season after breaking her right leg during a tournament game Friday night in Mexico City.
The 6-foot-7 center from Liberty Hill had been playing for the United States U18 team at the FIBA Americas championship. She broke her tibia and fibula during a game against Puerto Rico, her mother, Tambra Prince, said Saturday morning.
Prince will miss the upcoming season and hopes to return in time for the 2019-20 campaign. She will still have four years of eligibility with the Longhorns...

I was watching the game on YouTube and initially thought it was an ACL the way she buckled and went down. It’s crazy to think someone could break both lower leg bones just landing from contesting a shot.

| A "tib/fib" fracture (in medical jargon) is usually a break just above the ankle and can be caused by something as simple as an awkward landing or tripping. They are not uncommonly seen in the ER. It's an ugly injury and could potentially take a long time to heal, particularly on a taller player, because of a somewhat lesser blood supply;y to the area than to other parts of the body.

I don't know that she had a break just above the ankle. I read that she was having a tibial rod inserted.

Texas women's basketball freshman Sedona Prince successfully underwent surgery on Monday afternoon in Austin to repair a lower right leg fracture. She sustained the injury on Friday evening competing for the United States U18 Team at the FIBA U18 Women's Americas Championship in Mexico City. She is expected to make a full recovery, but no timetable for her return has been established.
Statement from Texas Head Coach Karen Aston: "I am so thankful to [USA Basketball Women's National Team Director] Carol Callan, the USA Basketball staff and our training and administrative staff here at Texas for their diligence in caring for Sedona and transporting her back to Austin. We are disappointed for her but will focus on her road to recovery with faith that she returns stronger and better than ever."

I don't know that she had a break just above the ankle. I read that she was having a tibial rod inserted. |
They could still put in a rod because of the tibia being such a weight-bearing bone.

They may have made that statement publicly but they were not that enthused about the means of transport. They felt they could and should have done much better than a flat bed truck and a wheelbarrow.
