I almost voted "Someone else" if Laimbeer can get LV to .500 he gets my vote. Right now its still Coach Hughes to lose .

Isn’t the winning the close games indicative of good coaching? Did you read this too late, pilight? How come you didn’t vote for Collen for COY?

Bill Laimbeer is President of Basketball Operations and Head Coach of the Las Vegas Aces.

His team has drastically improved its win total from a season ago, even with the injury to Moriah Jefferson.

But is it his coaching or his drafting of A'Ja Wilson that led to this tremendous turnaround?

Now, Kayla McBride has improved tremendously, in terms of her shooting percentages and efficiency, as has Kelsey Plum. But is that the result of having a viable post presence (and a tremendously dominant one at that) to take the focus of them or is it a result of the coach's adjustments and individual improvement?

In any event, at times, it can be difficult to distinguish between the role of the GM and the role of the Head Coach in deciding some of these awards.

That being said, Dan Hughes took a Seattle team with four of the same starters from last year (the fifth is on the bench) and led the team to six more wins at the same point as compared to last season. That strikes more more of a COY resume.

Winning close games is luck; winning by large margins is the sign of a good team.

That said, a prepared team with good fundamental understanding of its offensive and defensive principles that can execute has an edge, and that's coaching. (Drawing up last-second plays is not that hard -- it comes down to making the shot. Defensive mistakes on final possessions, though, reflect coaching, but sometimes players are just idiots. Especially late in games, players determine the outcome almost all the time ...)
