In the early '60's, Boston College had an All-American named Jack "the Shot" Foley, who was second in D1 scoring his senior year.

But this topic is about the forever famous Jess "THE Shot" Foley, who snapped UConn's 69 game home winning streak in the only game I've ever seen in which the winning team was never ahead during the 40 minute game clock. Behind by two points, Foley launched a last microsecond meteoric three, the game horn sounded while the shot was hanging in the air, and Duke won after the game clock expired.

Bedlam!!!

As an historical tidbit, this was also an early indication of Geno Auriemma's poor record in close, pressure games. Duke outscored UConn 18-3 over the final four minutes. Diana Taurasi put UConn ahead by two with 4.7 seconds left but Geno called nothing, even though he had a timeout remaining and one foul to give. Duke simply inbounded with virtually no defensive pressure and dished down court to the dashing Foley.

Just as Toliver is remembered for her shot in 2006, Foley will always be in my memory for the shot that Glenn mentioned. Wasn't that UConn's first loss of the season also?

Except Toliver's shot mattered and Foley's was just a regular season, out-of-conference game.

Any shot that takes down the Huskies matters - a lot! Wink

i sat midway up section 119(?), behind the basket in perfect alignment with foley, the ball, and the rim.

the silence we left in was, as they, deafening. Laughing

one of the best sports moments i've witnessed.

Foley's shot was one of the most memorable in women's college hoops and its never replayed. Didnt she end UCONN's streak at that time as well ? Like a homecourt streak of 90 games ? correct me if im wrong they've had so many streaks Laughing

I was in the 4th row directly behind Jess. The UConn fan who'd gifted the seats to me and my daughter to congratulate us. The UConn fans who'd looked at me with pity throughout the game were gracious as they filed out. They knew it was a sign of greatness that it was such a big deal to take them down.

And, of course, it was on that trip I met in person the wonderful Cth!

69 straight home games was the streak on the line for UCONN.

Here's a replay of the game.
