Why did the Sun abruptly quit posting Game Notes after June 5? The last one had a pdf the prior-game boxscore (w/ attendance) in it.

http://sun.wnba.com/notes/

EDIT: Also just noticing each of the Game Notes from May 26 through June 5 (five of them in all) posted the same grainy PDF boxscore from the May 20 home game against Las Vegas. Somebody quit or got canned, I suppose?

Has anyone asked Ned Griffen, who covers the Sun for The Day (@MetalNED) what's going on internally with attendance tracking?

It was really nice looking crowd on espn im surprised still no reports.

Just went through my usual sources(.com, ESPN, Yahoo!) and it's still listed as N/A.

Still no reported attendance for the June 13 game @ Connecticut. Might have to insert the # as zero(0).

The attendance for the June 13th game @ Connecticut was 5650.

Sun attendance might be better if they had any home games. From June 1 to July 7 the sun will have had 13 road games and 3 home games. You would think if they own the arena they could get a better schedule.

I'm still hoping the Wings can finish with an average over 5k. I'd expect Phoenix and hopefully Atlanta to finish better than '18. Maybe Seattle of they keep getting 8k crowds. Sparks and Lynx should also start seeing frequent 10k crowds now.

Big drops by Lynx and Sparks. I guess fans got tired of the teams winning all the time. Storm, Sun and Mystics seem to prove winning doesn't help much. In fact, the only thing that seems to help attendance is having Cambage show up. She is clearly the WNBA MVP when it comes to putting fans in seats. Too bad there is only one of her to go around.

19% decline midway through the season is a bad sign.

Per the Las Vegas Review Journal the announced attendance for the Lynx-Aces game was 4816. see link:

It's really sad they can't get 2k a night there at least. but judging by reports it's 1.) Not easy to get to, 2.) An amateur type "arena" & 3.) Visit teams hate playing there.

No. 3 doesn't seem like a bad thing for the Liberty. Visiting teams complain about the difficulties of getting the Sun games as well. Probably for visiting players playing games as MSG was quite a thrill by itself.

it may be tough to get to Mohegan Sun, but the arena differences between that and WCC are very different. Mohegan Sun arena is the exact type of arena WNBA teams wish to play in.

Perhaps some of our overseas members will chime in, but from what little I've seen WCC looks a bit like some of the arenas in Europe where our players play.

One obvious change is the Mystics' attendance, which probably now reflects actual attendance instead of the fantasy numbers most teams use. The Mystics do have to justify downsizing, and by reporting semi-real attendance this year, they make it easier to move.

At the same time, the league can hand-wave away the decline in attendance this year by simply pointing at New York and ignoring all the other negatives, so maybe L.A. and Minnesota are trying to get away from padded numbers too.

Or, of course, franchises could be doing just what they did before and there really are a lot fewer people going to games ...

The 2017 numbers are from the entire 2017 season.

Attendance went up in the second half last year, and I expect this year to be the same.

One thing that seems quite concerning is that even when teams move to smaller arenas attendance numbers end up being about half (if not less) than the arena capacity (of seats made available.) Even WCC is only coming in with about 1500 out of 2500. And this seems to have happened with other teams (including the Dream for that matter.) Going to smaller arenas doesn't seem to make for a more packed house - just a smaller half empty one. It will be interesting to see what happens when the Mystics move to the smaller arena.

Yes, attendance always starts to increase after July 4. School's are out, plus camp days become frequent for all teams. Hoping the 6,250 average is the lowest the league will get for the remainder of the season.

Here are the number from your 2017 thread for games to June 28. Bold are increased from last year at this time (excludes a few with really small changes). Most of the rest are pretty close. The biggest change is the the league avg is down by 737, only about half as much as the comparison to year end shows (-1466 above). Haven't done the math, but NY's change has to be responsible for a lot of that. So things aren't quite as bad as they look.

Rank. Team(# home games) - 2017 Average - (+/- 2016 Final Average)

1. Los Angeles Sparks(6) - 9,584 (-54)
2. Phoenix Mercury(6) - 9,357 (-995)
3. Minnesota Lynx(6) - 9,193 (-73)
