Seems like the AAF is getting the ball rolling early on grabbing their 8 inaugural cities. They announced Orlando, Atlanta & Memphis already and are expected to add teams in Chicago, Tempe, AZ & San Diego. The XFL has yet to announce any teams, but have been reportedly looking at Orlando, San Diego, Chicago & New York among their early prospective cities. The AAF will start in Feb. 2019 with games airing on the CBS Sports Network. The XFL is expected to start in Spring 2020 with no TV deal in place.

With the AAF's 8 teams decided, the XFL is looking to target the following markets: St. Louis, Oakland, Columbus(OH), Chicago, New York, Oklahoma City, Portland(OR), Boston(MA), Syracuse(NY) & Austin(TX).

Now the AAF needs to come up with decent names for the teams...Alliance (whatever city) won't do. I suspect i.e. Alliance San Antonio is just a place holder until a real name is announced....at least I hope so.

It's interesting that there's no teams in the Northeast for the AAF. I'd expect the XFL to put 1-2 teams there now (NYC and Boston?).

The XFL will officially announce their 8 teams on December 5. Reports are surfacing that Seattle, St. Louis and New York are three of the teams. Curious where else they'll go. Can't imagine they'll be in the same cities as the AAF. Boston? Chicago? Oklahoma City? Portland?

XFL planting themselves in 7 NFL cities. Smart choice? I think in a few years, one of either the XFL or AAF will fold. No way both leagues can survive.

December 5, XFL will announce their 8 cities. I agree with you that both league won't survive--I see a merger happening in no more than 5 years, if they can last past year 1.

The AAF is already on shaky financial ground

the AAF needed a $250 million investment from Carolina Hurricanes majority owner Tom Dundon simply to make payroll after its first weekend of game

I wouldn't bet good money on them finishing this one

That story pretty much illustrates why I didn't bother even pretending I was interested in the league.

It won't last.

The AAF will suspend all football operations

Quote:
a source told PFT that the AAF needed roughly $20 million to get to the end of its first season. Instead, the season will end with two weeks left in the regular season, and with a four-team postseason that never comes to fruition.

From the beginning they were spending way too much money. Nobody's surprised here.
