Donovan is the 1st former WNBA head coach to pass away

Seriously, dude? We get it, you're Mr. WNBA. Totally insensitive and uncalled for.

RIP Anne, how very sad!

Chill. It's just a simple, relevant fact. So is the fact that Donovan was the first female head coach to win a WNBA championship.
Very sad news, especially considering she was still relatively young.

I'm sure pilight wasn't trying to make this situation worse for anyone. Anne has continued to trailblaze. RIP, Anne. You were far too young to go.

Rest in peace Anne. Very sad to hear this news. Like Luuc said she helped LJ to become the best and helped the Storm win a championship.

She and Margot died way too young. Im a bit scared for other tall women and future heartproblems now because this cant be a coincidence Confused Sad

Anne was also a great player. It is a shame that she left us so soon

Very, very sad ... she had a brilliant career and was a central figure in the sport for decades. RIP ...

(And no criticism here for pilight ...)

Watching Anne Donovan from TV I saw a very, very good coach and very much respected from the people she coached. She left us way too soon. RIP Anne.

This is just tragic and such sad sad news to hear. Hits very hard. For some of us, you know, those were the days. It's been a long time, and I'm going by a vague memory, but wasn't there something about AD and the stresses and pressures of coaching a long time ago? Anyone remember that?

it's hard to believe someone looks so healthy, then all of the sudden just goes like that. ?

R.I.P., Anne! Sad

That said, I am wondering what she did for a living after her last coaching gig. She stepped down from the Connecticut Sun after the 2015 season.

My Dad was 56 when he passed due to heart failure. So Anne's passing has special meaning for me. My Dad was and looked very ill at the time. But looks are and have always been deceiving, and heart failure can take you good health or bad. The best thing to do is keep praying for another day forward to spend with the people you care for and love.

so sad. my friend & I have a picture in which Anne had to bend over half way to be in the picture with us. she was always approachable & friendly, no matter how tired she may have felt. i'll never forget the 2004 Storm season. it was unbelievable & Anne was the leader of the pack. that was the best of times, this is the worst. Sad

Not sure what Hatchell is talking about. Semjonova didn't play in the 1988 games

Lauren Jackson pays tribute to 'beautiful friend' Anne Donovan

Quote:
"She started coaching me in 2003 and we just became friends straight away," Jackson said.

"On court she did a lot of extra work with me on my inside game, and off the court she became one of my closest friends.

"I don’t really know what else to say, she definitely touched me as a friend and a mentor, and was a great coach as well. She brought the best out in me and took my basketball game to another level, there is no doubt about it.

"I would never have won the MVP that year if it wasn’t for her and all the work she put in with me, which was fairly unusual for a head coach to do over in a professional league.

"Normally the assistant coaches take up that role, but she saw something in me and she worked tirelessly."

"I had a pretty big chunk of my career with her as a coach and my development as a player and a person as well. I went from being a kid under her to being a young woman. I’m just shattered now.

"We’d talked a lot recently about her coming out here and meeting Harry. I don’t really know what to say, I’m just sad."

Obituary for Anne Theresa Donovan from Andrews Mortuary in Wilmington, NC http://j.mp/2MIfUMV "A public celebration of Anne's life will take place at Paramus Catholic High School, Paramus, NJ on Saturday June 30, 2018 at 3:00 PM, followed by a reception in the gym."

No mention in the articles about Anne Donovan's influence on women's basketball as to her personal life. Perhaps she didn't have one.
