Hmmm. Looks like Washington's isn't the only number that needs a Laughing after it.

Minnesota clearly has the worst fans in the WNBA because they couldn't help the Lynx win a game against an undermanned opponent while Dallas and Connecticut must have the best fans in the WNBA since their teams easily won at home. Very Happy

I think a lot of Sky fans arrived late for that game and that pic was probably taken early on. Wintrust Arena did look about 75% full during the second half of the game.

Nice theory, now if you had the observation skills to notice that the scoreboard says there’s 2:59 left in the 4th quarter. Surprised

I was at the Mercury game. There was about 9000 people in the building. There were some open sections in the upper decks, where people sat as well.

How are attendance figures actually calculated? Is it determined by how many tickets are sold for that specific game or do they do a body count of the number of people in the building?

I think it is "tickets distributed"which means tickets sold and or given away. Some teams give away a lot of tickets which often never get used. That's how the NBA does it. Don't see why the WNBA would be any different.

The NBA and NHL announce the number of tickets distributed, adding complimentary tickets -- for players' families, league officials, sponsors and such -- to the number of tickets sold.

All I know is that there are homeless people in the Mt Vernon Triangle area with queen size, 2" thick mattresses made entirely out of unused Mystics tickets.

After a solid weekend, tonight we saw two very lightly attended games.

Indiana - 4,742
Washington - 4,509

At least the Mystics were honest about tonight's number.

IMO you've got a very generous definition of honest.

I think the Washington count is accurate if you count both teams including coaching staffs, venders, the camera crews and the kids under the baskets with the mops

I still think it's more likely they arrived at the number by counting individual butt cheeks on seats rather than people on seats.
To complete my hypothesis I'm just trying to figure out how it ended up being an odd number.

That would not be unprecedented. I read that many college football programs include vendors, security people, ushers, ticket-takers, and the press in their attendance numbers.

Mystics real attendance wasn't that bad this last game versus the lower half of the league.

Good news for Dallas! I think there is still quite a bit of difference between their reported and actual attendance but it looks a whole lot better than the past couple of seasons. I wonder what they are doing differently?

Apparently their season ticket base has nearly doubled. So hopefully they keep up the 5k numbers all season. Dallas saw some terribly small crowds last year.

When you sign the best player in the world, I guess it can lead to good things happening. Who da thunk.
