Cukurova are 1-1 in the best-of-five semi-finals in Turkey. If they pull off the upset she won't be back in the US for a while yet. |

She finished at the same time as Maya. They aren't rushing back for a preseason game.

Reeve's going to look at the box score and go....oh no, what have I done? Renee Montgomery, high scorer and 3:1 ato ratio.

Has the "best athlete in women's or men's college basketball" (Doris Burke, Jay Bilas) had a triple-double yet or otherwise changed the game with jaw-dropping plays?
If not, give her time. |

My way too early observations*:
Now I know why the Sky fans didn't like Breland. She can only hit baskets against the Dream.
Montgomery will get Clarendon's starting job.
Lucas will gobble up Sykes minutes.
Imani is still Imani
Gabby is the bust of the draft.
Billings will be ok.
Hooper will get cut
Coates is the bust of last year's draft
The Sky are tanking
*take seriously at your own risk.

I think the problem with the Sky & Williams is simply finding minutes for her. This game showed that it'll likely be Bulgak & Parker at PF. I see DeShields & Copper sharing minutes at SF.

It's only one exhibition game; don't jump off the bridge yet.

I still think it was a bonehead move by the Sky to draft Williams over Stevens.

Hard to do anything good when you have no point guard. Alston isn't WNBA material, Hopkins barely played for some reason and Linnae Harper was playing minutes at the 1.
Almost everyone competing for a spot on the Sky looked bad. Coates was completely ineffective, Bulgak was meh, Hooper could barely get a shot off. When Cheyenne Parker and Alex Montgomery are your best players, you're probably gonna have a bad time.
Also, the jerseys. They suck. Big time. I think they're supposed to be one size fits all or something but that clearly didn't work. People were adjusting how they were tucked into their shorts on almost every possession. One of the refs told McGee-Stafford to tuck her jersey in and she looked at her like, "What am I supposed to do? You try being 6'7!" I don't know if they're made out of the wrong material or what, but talking to several players after the game, none of them liked the fit. Nike might have dropped the ball here...
The best part of the game, honestly, was playing in a modern arena. Wintrust is just gorgeous. It was open to just season and partial ticket holders only though so don't judge from the pictures.

This sounds like it looked as ugly as the boxscore. Chicago, my friends, you are in for a loooong season. Sloot will make it better, but not enough better. Atlanta, dunno about you either. Angel will make it all much better of course. And if Montgomery can continue to drop threes, that will be a help. EWill getting blocked 10 times (only slight exaggeration) and Imani sounding like she's still in la,la,land also does not bode well.

It was only one game for the Dream but looking good so far and without Angel. I would think that Dietrick, Engram and Julien would be the last 3 cuts unless something changes.

You have to wonder how long of a career Imani will have if she keeps blaming her team/coach for her lack of minutes. How long before she asks to be traded out of Atlanta?

1.Breland puts up solid numbers, but her impact is nonexistent.
2.If Montgomery ends up being the starter, the Dream are in trouble.I never thought Monty was starter material...A shoot first, short PG with poor vision.
3.Sykes > Lucas...Lucas always looks good during the preseason. She needs to have a good game after the season begins before I become a believer.
Lucas-2015 preseason:
22p/3r/3s//5-10/3-4 vs Dallas
12p/5a/3r/2s/3-7/1-3/5-6 vs Wash
4.Atlanta could've drafted Deshields,Stevens,Canada,Vivians etc..with the 3rd pick...Imani needs to step her game up this season.
5.Give Gabby some time.She's only a rookie.
6.I'm very high on Billings. She reminds me of a young Dennis Rodman.
7.Hooper wouldn't be a bad pickup as a end of the bench 3 pt specialist.

That's disappointing to hear.
When I saw how underwhelming the design was (appearance-wise, from a fan perspective), I figured at least the players would like them to play in. D'oh.

First half was sucky for both teams. It got better as the game went on, but it still was a typical preseason game. Think JV scrimmage. Players that were enjoyable to watch were Lucas, Montgomery, and Quigley.
The wardrobe malfunction that caught my eye was Renee Bennett's too small shorts which caused her to constantly pull on them and try to discreetly pick them out of her nether regions all game. Makes me wonder if the unis are running small or if the Sky just doesn't have it in the budget to have larger sized shorts available.
The Sky's new digs are pretty nice. Thre is not a bad seat in the house and it is intimate enough to have everyone close to the game. My suggestion for out of towners like me is to not trust your GPS but to know Wintrust is On Cermak Road just west of McCormick Place complex if you are coming in for the first time. They do have parking deals for Sky games which make it almost reasonable. IIRC, parking for the home opener is $20.
Really didn't go there to get a scouting report, just wanted to get out of Dodge for the day.

What position did Gabby play in her 13 minutes tonight. Serious question?
