They're good. They'll have Wilson and Bone start with Swords, Park and Hamby off the bench. They'd be better with Harrison, but it's nothing bad.

Alexander strikes me as strictly a center. Laimbeer brought in three centers. So I don’t think Alexander is a devastating loss to Laimbeer, especially considering he gave her away. He’s still got Hamby, Burdick, and first shot at the waiver wire.

Harrison claims she’s looking forward to returning. Otherwise I might have wondered if she came down with a sudden case of IthoughtIwasgonnastartitus. It’s a pretty painful condition often times brought on by the sight of a newly released training camp roster. Wink

Her quote about returning "soon" makes me doubt that

my point exactly.

and I thought Izzy was one of the few highlights on the team last year so I'm not so sure losing her is meaningless. Better hope A'ja is truly pro ready. I think A'ja can produce as much or more offense, but not as much on the glass or the defensive end. With Harrison, they had quite a nice post rotation. Without her, it's fairly meh IMO. Bone is a journeywoman type player. I like Swords but she has limitations. Both were decent pickups but not likely to be game changers. Park is unknown but unlikely to get off the bench. Hamby makes more dumb mistakes than positive contributions. I can't see why they would keep Burdick over Coffey and we know Coffey would be better off at the SF. Both are likely deep bench if they manage to stick at all. And while whatever might come off the waiver wire might be better than what they have, it certainly won't be more than deep bench. All in all, meh. Maybe Bill plays Young some at PF. She might be more useful there anyway because at least she could rebound even if she can't make shots.

If Park has a better offensive game than Swords and will show up regularly, Swords won't be with the Aces too long.

Here’s the clip I’m talking about. The guard Brooke Johnson didn’t look too bad either.

Here’s a 30-sec shooting drill where Park doesn’t miss.

Park seems like a lock now with Harrison out. Just a matter of whether Hamby, Burdick or Coffee get that 5th post spot.

I thought about that, but I don’t think we’ve ever had a player try to hide that condition.

Nared should be competing for ROY with all of her length, height, abilities and skills. She's almost an exact but taller replica of Swin Cash.

Not sure about why she hasn't so far fully lived up to her obvious talent?

Sometimes players have so many talents and interests along with basketball that confusion sets in and makes it hard for them to fully commit themselves to one of them.

Sometimes, they just don't want it bad enough to put in the necessary work and concentration.

Sometimes they have been muddled in a bad college situation and not received the needed coaching/training and leadership.

Sometimes they have been muddled in a college program where there has been a great deal of consternation, discord and disharmony.

Sometimes it can be personal challenges.

Sometimes it can be a combination of all of the above.

I don't pretend to know the answer but this player has the ability to shine if she really wants to and takes advantage of the situation set before her.

I'd love to see it happen for her.

Only time will tell.

Las Vegas Aces stress defense as training camp begins

https://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/basketball/aces-wnba/las-vegas-aces-stress-defense-as-training-camp-begins/

Quote:
They’ll practice twice on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, too, before tapering back the workload in advance of their first preseason game, which is May 6 versus the Chinese national team at Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Quote:
No. 1 overall pick A’ja Wilson was impressive, as expected. Fellow rookie Ji-Su Park, who hails from South Korea, was also impressive, unexpectedly. “She competes, she’s 6-foot-6, and she listens well,” Laimbeer said. “She implements what we ask her.”

Upgrades to Mandalay Bay Events Center

Quote:
MGM Resorts also has deep enough pockets to invest $10 million in making over and modernizing Mandalay Bay Events Center into a pro women’s basketball entertainment hub, complete with new seats for 7,000-7,500 fans, the new scoreboard that was being installed Thursday and a new sound system.

I think she has a real shot to make this team.
