How's this for turning the tables ... a former NBA lottery pick getting a massive $400,000 alimony check from his WNBA star wife?

That's exactly what happened between Candace Parker and Shelden Williams ... according to court docs obtained by TMZ Sports.

Candace -- one of the biggest stars in WNBA history -- married Williams back in 2008, two years after he was selected 5th overall in the 2006 NBA Draft.

Despite the fact Williams reportedly made more than $12 MILLION during his 6-year NBA career, Parker has apparently done better ... and agreed to shell out the $400k alimony payment. In exchange, she won't have to pay ongoing spousal support.

The couple also divided the profits on their former home in Encino, CA which they just sold for $3.75 mil.

As for their 8-year-old daughter, the couple agreed on joint legal and physical custody -- but neither party will pay child support. Instead, they both agreed to equally fund her education and split any major costs associated with her care.

Nice deal for Candace. Pay him one lump sum to go away and she will recoup that amount in no time.

It's not about who has "done better". This was not a no-fault divorce.

Would you be saying this if the situation were reversed?

Actually, for purposes of a divorce, the "equalization payment" is about who has done better, thus the person in the better financial position pays the lesser earning spouse. California is a no fault divorce state, meaning you can divorce for any reason.

In any event, better to pay a lump sum than to continue having to make payments. Happy that they appeared to reach an amicable custody and support resolution with their daughter.

You can have a no-fault divorce in California, but not all California divorces are no-fault.

Agreed. Not sure what your point is here.

He is merely taking advantage of divorce law rules, which is a double edge sword for women commanding high incomes.

So are you saying the same thing about Candace Parker if the she sued him and he had to pay her. Or what about all the other men who have to pay women when they get divorced are those all losers too who can't go out and make their own money, or is this only again him or men who get money from their wives.

If the situation were reversed and Candance had made the money he did and she asked for the same amount that he did, yes I would be saying the same thing.

Is it really about the money though, it's not as if it's a monthly payment, it's a one time payment, and he nor she is paying the other person child support, they are splitting half the cost for things related to their daughter like education and other costs for care, so it's not as if is planning on living off that money or expecting her to support him the rest of his life.

Doesn't Calif recognize pre-nups, or is the implication that they didn't have one?

At the end of the day, I think it was something mutually agreed upon and in reality she loses nothing. So she gets a little less from the sale of the house. But its like, here's your check and see ya later. They seem to do good at co-parenting but seriously Candace seems so much happier since the split. She is more approachable, smiles more and seems to be enjoying her life.
