I hope you are wrong. I don't see the point of bringing in players like Elena and Elonu. But, what do I know?

there are a lot of options at #16 that could probably beat one of those player out so there will be some camp competition

S. Thomas, Hines-Allen, Mavunga, Atkins, Scaife, Gulich, Goodwin, Nared they could all win a spot over the last 3 in on the roster above.

Why would be dream trade Bri Holmes for a draft pick?

I don’t get it for Connecticut. Holmes is off this season. They have to pay 50% salary for maternal pay. And they give up two picks. I guess they don’t have room for the pick, so might as well get Holmes on deferral?

I know Holmes is originally from Connecticut so maybe she requested it, but ATL got a pretty good deal if it’s a requested trade. Should be a decent player at #15.

Holmes is a decent player who's already shown signs of being useful in the WNBA; the two second round picks are likely to be training camp cuts. That's why Connecticut do it, even if she won't be playing for them until next year.

Billings could possibly be better than Holmes (or not) but not sure either one will stick for long. Dream probably figured they didn't want to count on a player coming back from pregnancy and Sun don't need her now. With Angel back Dream don't need here either. The baby care might be a lot smoother in CT since she appears to have family there and she would be less likely to skip town at the first opportunity. In the end I'll wait to see how it turns out before declaring winners and losers.

Clarendon/RMontgomery
Hayes/Sykes/Lucas
McCoughtry/(Elonu vs Engram)
Breland/Billings/Dantas
EWilliams/McGee-Stafford

They didn’t put their 3rd round pick Engram on the updated roster, so not sure what to make of that.

Wallace (deferred)

Think this is probably more realistic. Don't see any of the rookies making the team aside from Billings. Hayes can (and often has) back up Angel at the 3. With Sykes and Lucas the 2 and 3 spots are covered. Dantas has played the 5 in the past, but mostly the 4 last year and will likely come in before Billings. Only room for one more player. They might go for another 3 or a 5. Don't need another 1, 2, or 4 if everyone stays healthy. Since they dumped Yelena probably are looking at another 5. Trade for Russell perhaps or ??? Or maybe play Dantas a little at the 5.

SF:

Looks exactly like my depth chart above, except I have (Elonu vs Engram) for that last spot. Their post situation looks pretty good. Not sure why they would need another center.

Kristy Wallace looks back on stellar Baylor career (extensive article)

Quote:
Before she got drafted, Wallace’s plans were to return home to Australia and rehab her knee. Then she hoped she’d eventually play WNBL (Women’s National Basketball League), Australia’s version of the WNBA.

Now, she’ll return home to rehab her knee before reporting to Atlanta next year.

“I won’t sign the contract this year,” Wallace said. “I’ll be back next year for training camp. It’s just delayed a year. I’m still shocked that I was drafted. I can’t believe it. It’s so cool.”

Refreshed Dream optimistic for upcoming WNBA season

http://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/23367581/refreshed-atlanta-dream-optimistic-upcoming-2018-wnba-season

Quote:
"I want to be the best defensive team in the league, and I want to play the fastest," said Collen

Quote:
"I want to play a certain way, but I inherited a team with certain strengths. It's about meshing the two."

I hope Collen likes McCoughtry style defense because I’ll be surprised if she can get her to play it any other way.

Quote:
McCoughtry is coming off winning a EuroLeague Final Four championship with UMMC Ekaterinburg on April 22.

Oops, Voepel must have confused McCoughtry with Maya. Not only does McCoughtry not play for UMMC, she won third place in EuroLeague.

Quote:
"We've got two of the most explosive athletes in our league in Angel and Brittney. I think they can be on the court together, and we can play a lot of different ways.

Is she saying they could be starters together? That would be interesting.

Quote:
In contrast to Cooper's more laid-back and at times acerbic coaching and communicating style, Collen comes to the Dream as an optimistic bundle of energy.

"The sun has come out," is how McCoughtry puts it. "Nicki has brightened things up a bit."

Could besties TIP and Brittney be playing for a spot? If ATL wants to play the fastest that sounds like Lori Ann playing the 4?

Clarendon
Sykes
Hayes
Lori
E. Will

Vs

Clarendon
Hayes or Sykes
Lori
Breland
E.Will

Which seems faster to you?

That would be faster but would probably limit rebounding, which is an important part of defense.

With all the post players they have now, it’s hard to see McCoughtry playing any great amount of time at PF just so the can play both their SF’s at the same time.

Breland/Dantas/Billings
EWilliams/McGee-Stafford
