Pitt is a graveyard. Someone with Ivey's high pedigree would risk destroying it there.

Indeed, one former Pitt head coach, Traci Waites, has been a pariah dead coach walking for 13 years. She was fired from Pitt in part because she cursed at players and, according to her, from Columbia solely because she had one beer on a road trip. And could never get a job in the profession again.

The rumor mill is making it sound like Stollings to Texas Tech is as good as a done deal.

Just hire the coach that the school believes is the best fit and the most likely to help their student athletes succeed. I have never known a student athlete that would rather the female coach be hired due her gender. They want their coach to be the person most likely to lead them to successful playing careers.

Update: a source close to Stollings tells KSTP on Monday morning that she has an offer from Texas Tech and will make a decision later in the day.

Gophers women's basketball coach Marlene Stollings has accepted the same position at Texas Tech, sources told the Star Tribune on Monday.

Stollings, whose team finished 24-9 and lost to Oregon in the second round of the NCAA tournament this season, had an 82-47 record in four seasons at Minnesota.

Woo hoo! Now it's time for the Gophers to hire a good coach!

I know she was in the mix last time so I'm not sure if it was a lack of interest on her part that Stollings got the job but if she is interested this time around, give her a blank check and take it from there.

Really confused about the Stollings move. This seems like a step down. Yes, Tech was a once strong program, but the cupboard is bare and other Texas programs have really dominated recruiting (if not Final Four appearances!)

I want to know if there were actually any "candidates", or if the old AD just gift-wrapped the job to Stollings as quickly as possible and didn't bother trying to land any big names.

The Gophers AD can't do what the most Minnesotan thing to do is, which is replace mediocre coaches/GMs/etc with someone even worse, can he?

Don't jinx the gophers! I'll just sit here and hope and pray that whoever they hire knows how to coach a good defense. Only 14 teams gave up more points on defense this year than the Gophers.

1. Ivey (Might help Gophers score important in-state recruit Bueckers)
2. Johnston (Recruits Minnesota better than Minnesota does)
3. Whalen (No coaching experience. Start as an assistant somewhere first. No indication that she even wants to coach)
4. Dawkins (Would be settling for the assistant. Wouldn’t reflect well on AD)
