A short week for preparation. Shouldn't bother either team who have been facing each other for a long time.

I'm glad UConn is really going to have go through 2 tough 1 seed opponents to win it all this go-around. Hopefully Notre Dame gives them a better F4 game than Maryland did in 2015 as a 1 seed.

I believe last time ND beat UConn in the NCAA tournament was a semi-final game, on Good Friday.

Uh oh....

Haven't they played on Sunday/Tuesday for quite a while up until last year?

So, what defense will each team play?

There is a small consensus that ND will play a zone to protect their slow and chunky starters from getting fouls.

I'd say a rational strategy for UConn would be to focus on stopping Ogumbowale and Mabrey from scoring on three-point shots and drives, and even making it difficult for them to maneuver and pass. Hence, rather than a straight man defense, I'll guess that Geno may, at least for stretches, try an amoeba-and-2 defense with Nurse and Dangerfield face guarding Ogunbowale and Mabrey. Williams may at times become one of the face guarders.

Who will win? UConn has to be the favorite, but Muffet has had Geno's number much better than anyone else, and Geno's record in the Dance Semi is what . . . 11-7?

I'll go out on a limb and predict that Westbeld won't be the one to beat UConn.

I do still remember Marina's Frosh year where she lit it up against UConn...but don't think Geno will let that happen again either.

If ND plays zone the entire game they will lose. Muffett is very aware im sure. Christina Nelson & Jackie Young's Point production will be vital for ND .

And just for fun, twice before ND has had a senior who was from the state that the Final Four was in:

2001: Niele Ivey from Missouri (specifically St. Louis where the FF was held)
2011: Becca Bruszewski Indiana

ND beat UConn both times.

ND's senior F Kat Westbeld is from Ohio. Wink

I'm more concerned that ND has a starter who shouldn't even be on the team, like in 2001.

At least back lo, all those years ago, it was due to injury, and thus legit.

I think Marina's the key. She has to be controlled. Arike will get hers. With Arike she most likely may be very hot 13 for 20 but sometimes cold 5 for 18. Dangerfield won't be able to guard her. Cannot let Marina drop 7 or more threes. Young too could be a big problem with UConn emphasis being on Marina and Arike; the middle area may be vulnerable.

As for UConn, they will need to score, especially with threes from KLS and some from Nurse. Azura could be the difference.

I have no horse in this race so I just wanna see a good gm. ND & UConn has given us epic gms hoping tonight gm is the same.

Credit to ND for making it to the Final 4 even with all those injuries to the team.

For all the admiration for Muffett's managing a short bench, both teams will play no more than 7 tonight, and UConn may only use 6.

UConn could press the piss out of them and be aggressive going to the rim. Fast break city! ND will give out just like the last meeting

Some stat stuff from Her Hoop Stats:

We may see the most whistle-less game possible. UConn is #1 in the country and ND is #2 in Foul Rate, both committing fouls on only 17% of possessions.

We shouldn't see UConn win with a big volume of free throws, because they are #316 (Bottom 10%) in Free Throw Rate with 0.24 free throw attempts per field goal attempt.

We shouldn't see ND win with a big volume of three-point makes, because they are 341st (9th lowest) in Three Point Rate with only 20% of their shot attempts coming from deep. Hmmm . . . maybe UConn doesn't need to guard Ogumbowale and Mabrey deep.

Well at least Geno has access to all of his top players...pretty sure there are at least 1 or 2 top players that would make a huge difference for Notre Dame if they weren't nursing a torn ACL.

Anyway, I am hoping for a helluva game.

How many top players are on Notre Dame's roster? Nine? Ten?

ESPN's Mr Brylcreem says that Miss St is hoping for UConn to win.

Yeah, right.

Is there any doubt that Turner would be in the 6 or 7 player rotation with everyone healthy? No, probably not. And losing your starting PG in Thompson would probably also qualify, but it could be argued this current lineup might be better. Anyway, like I said in my original comment, at least 1 or 2 of their top 7 players on the roster aren't available.
