It's 37-22 St. John's at halftime over Marist. Fantastic offensive rebounding from our posts. Marist does so many little things well, but the thing I would most like to be able to replicate is to be able to get two busloads of fans to a game, let alone a road game.

A WNIT bid for a school like USC has risks and rewards. The result could boost their reputation, or lower it. They could win it all, or lose to a mid-major in the first round. Or something in-between that may or not be to their liking.

When younger, talented teams play deep in the WNIT it really helps them (Cal, UCLA). USC is a relatively veteran squad with mostly senior starters.

Maybe the coaches ask the players and they are just ready to be done and move on.

JMU beat ETSU last night, 60-52. And who was it that said ETSU's Tianna Tarter couldn't shoot 3s? That girl is a bomb-thrower! She was in the couple of games I watched before, too, but not like last night. Thank goodness our long-range bomber, Lexie Barrier, was on target last night, scoring 27 for JMU, because ETSU managed to tie up Kamiah Smalls pretty effectively. That's the beauty of a team that works by committee.

Now our girls get to play Radford, who beat Penn State in OT in a game which was, by all accounts, a bit of a thriller.

That was me, and I stand by my statement. She was 1/8 in three games against against my Bears this season and 28% for the season.

Most 3-point shooters are streaky and not a whole lot better, when you come right down to it...including our Lexie! Wink

I seem to recall their A.D. always says no WNIT. Their last trip was in 2011 in spite of several more eligible seasons since.

Lots of lead changes throughout the game, neck and neck the whole way.
Congrats to Radford, well played + coached. #4 has wicked speed off the bench. #10 was a size mismatch for PSU, and they took advantage of it.
PSU didn't have Green their #3 scorer and that made a difference. Page had to sit a long part of the 3rd.
Everybody got their money's worth on this one.

Hope JMU v Radford is as good a game.

It looks to me like West Virginia has the easiest path to the final 4.

At least we'll have a better crowd

For certain.
And good luck, Radford won't take a nap during the game.

Radford came up to JMU tonight, and I suspect they wish they hadn't. I think they must have left it all on the floor Thursday, because they sure didn't bring anything with them! It was nearly five minutes before JMU let them score at all, and then it was a couple of free throws. Meanwhile, what the WNIT press release referred to as JMU's "three-headed monster" of Lexie Barrier, Kamiah Smalls, and Kelly Koshuta was racking up the points, joined by nearly everyone else on the team including freshman Tori Harris, who played significant minutes and nailed a brilliant 3-pointer as well as a nice inside layup and showed some real defensive prowess as well...she's so long that despite her rather frail appearance, she's very effective against tall players. Final score was 62-35, with JMU's bench playing most of the 4th quarter.

On a bittersweet note, former Duke Savannah Felgemacher, who is sitting out this year as a transfer to Radford, was welcomed back with hugs and smiles as well as a chant from the pep band of "You're still one of us!"

JMU now awaits a date with the winner of St. Joseph's-WVU. St. Joseph's beat them earlier this year and I'm sure revenge is on their minds.....WVU, OTOH, would probably be a killer.

If it is St. Joe's, would you terribly mind beating sixty-two flavors of crap out of them? Knocked Fordham off two in a row and cost us any at-large consideration the A-10 might have gotten us, then knocked Seton Hall out of the WNIT.

As I said, I'm sure revenge is on our girls' minds! And Kamiah is from Philly, also.....

Those were 7 of the 8 teams I expected to make the final 8 when the bracket came out (minus UC Davis, obviously).

Seems kind of unusual to see the WNIT going so much to form, though hopefully as a result the rest of the tournament will be pretty exciting.

I was a bit surprised TCU has done so well. But now my final four picks are:

So Dakota (obviously a tough game but the home crowd will carry the day)
Va Tech
Indiana
WVU

and WVU is still my overall winner.

South Dakota was my pre-tournament pick, presuming home court throughout and brutal travel on short notice for anyone who has to go there.

But Michigan State, TCU and potentially Indiana and WVU would definitely be a gauntlet by WNIT standards.

Go Hokies! They've had a pretty remarkable run towards the end of Kenny's second season.

I'm so happy for Tyra Buss....and this is a much longer run than they'd have had if they'd made it to the NCAA tourney. Go Hoosiers!

Go Hokies! Really pleased with how this team came on toward the end of the season.64-61 over WVU tonight. They were my second choice after JMU.

So, she'll out-score them all by the end of the final. Good for her!
