She's not lying but who will she guard?


She will probably guard Seimone . Neither will be able to stop each other but id take coops defense over Augustus.

Augustus is the best perimeter defender on the Lynx. And the Lynx are always at or near the top of the league in defense anyway. For that matter, so were the Comets. Players like Whalen and Cooper, who wouldn't dominate on defense with any particular physical trait, still fit very well within a team defense concept.

If you take Whalen, on the surface, she should get overwhelmed on defense. Yet her team doesn't seem to be affected by that alleged quality. Granted now the Lynx have Fowles, but even when McCarville was the starting 5, the Lynx' defensive numbers were still excellent. Whalen helps and recovers really well. Without knowing a team defense concept, it's impossible to assess just how effective a player is in that regard. But one thing is for sure. You don't see Whalen out of a play. You see her doubling, you see her closing out on shooters. She has to be doing something right. If she was a liability, there's no way the Lynx could be number 1 or number 2 in the league in defense. You can't carry a liability and be that effective in team defense.

Shocked Defense has never been a calling card of Augustus. She did step up her defense for the first time in her career in 2011, but I think she's drop off again since then.

I would say Maya is the most underrated defensively on the team.
