Interesting that she was the was the only holdover from Bobbie Kelsey’s staff when Tsipis took over the program in 2016 and was also described the "recruiting wiz for Wisconsin" by the head of one AAU program, yet none of the top 100 players (including 3 from Wisconsin) in 2017 and none of the top 100 players in 2018 signed with Wisconsin (per Dan Olson/Collegiate Girls Basketball Report). ASGR had Wisconsin with one top 100 player and the 7th best recruiting class in the Big Ten for 2018 (ranked 45th nationally), after ranking Wisconsin's 2017 class 75th nationally.

She's been named the new director of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. I'd say that could be called a step up.

Mentioned in the hot seat thread, but more relevant here: Joanne Boyle is retiring. http://www.virginiasports.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/032018aaa.html

Wow. That's too bad.

Tamika has said many times that she has no interest in coaching.

You reckon they will go after Staley?

I doubt they'd be willing to buy out her SC contract, let alone pay her as much as she's making now.

UVA has beaucoup de $$$$. Way more than a state university rightfully ought to have. You can trust me on that one. The Man is a UVA grad and he bitches all the time about how they have so much and are always coming around with hands out. We've been giving to JMU instead. He feels no loyalty.

As of 2016-2017, Joanne Boyle's base salary was $365,792 (it will obviously be greater this year, with yearly increases and a bonus for making the NCAA Tournament). Her contract expires this year.

By comparison, in 2015, Staley had her contract extended and salary raised. Her base pay was raised from $350,000 to $550,000; her contract was extended through 2020-21; and her total compensation package was pushed to $1.1 million, starting with 2015-16. After winning the national title, Staley signed a four-year extension in 2017 that included an increase in base salary to $650,000, and yearly increases in outside compensation (money from athletic department rights holders) that raised her total financial package to $1.4 million in the first year of the extension (2021) and to $2.1 million in the final year (2025). Her buyout increases from $700,000 in her old contract to $3.5 million in the first year of the new deal.

In other words, Virginia would not have to buy out Boyle, as she is in the last year of her contract.

But Virginia would have to pony up a LARGE sum of money to buy out Staley, plus a HUGE package to attract Staley (unless Dawn wants to take a massive pay cut). Not sure UVA Athletics has the money (or the desire) to spend so much money on a non-revenue sport.

I guess they will continue to languish, then. Although this was a reasonably decent year for them. The women, anyway. The men are the laughing stock of the rest of the state Wink

Would love to see Tammi Reiss take this job since Staley and Boucek are less likely

I know they have it, it's just a question of whether they're willing to spend it on WCBB.

Tamika has said many times that she has no interest in coaching.

They don't have the money to fund a D-I program properly and don't have the guts to publicly fire their coaches, yet they somehow think they can get local legends to take over programs that combined for four wins last year. The fact that one of their targets has no interest in coaching is somehow not the biggest problem with this plan.

Cori Close's name has shown up on some Twitter feeds as a potential coaching replacement. This would be interesting. Close is paid MOR for the Pac and could clearly make much more elsewhere. While many have criticized her work with Canada and Billings, her coaching ability will truly be demonstrated next season without them. Her recruiting has fallen off (Ezi aside) and if anything, if she wants to make the move, like Caldwell and Neighbors, this would be the year to do it.

Also, her contract is reportedly up this year, so if a school wanted her, there is no buyout.

Forget funding the basketball program, Chicago State can barely keep their doors open.
