I think the 'all others' category is slightly bigger than 0-1 on the loser side.

I think it means that each of the other conferences finished 0-1.

It means each unlisted conference went 0-1. I was trying to conserve space.

Yes. I did see much value in listing each one individually, nor did I anticipate any confusion over the obvious meaning of this post that I've done here for years without issue.

I agree "all others" is ambiguous. "Each of X others" would be clearer and more informative, if longer.

I thought it might be intersting to break wins and losses into Chalk and upsets

In the following table the first two columns are ins, eithe Upset Wins or Chalk wins, and the thi4rd and forth columns are losess, either Chawlk losses or Upset loess, the columns ordered so that the best are left.
I did the top six conferences and the AAC

First round

CON UW CW CL UL

ACC 1 5 0 2

P12 0 5 0 1

SEC 0 5 0 2

BE 2 2 0 0

B10 1 3 1 1

B12 0 2 0 0

AAC 0 1 0 1

I assume chalk/chawlk win/loss means "expected". Is there a known origin for that term? Didn't seem to get anything from a search for the term.

Chalk means that the higher seed wins.

The probable etymology of the term "chalk" is from the old bookie days where lines would be written on a chalkboard as such:

Quinnipiac
UConn -39.5

So the -39.5 would be in chalk (they often had placards for the teams)

The Pac-12 has now placed at least 4 teams in the Sweet 16 for the 3rd straight NCAA tournament. It is the only conference to be able to boast that. I don't know if some other conference used to do that regularly in the past, maybe they have and I'm just ignorant. But the Pac-12 is the only one that's done so over the stretch of this current 3-year window (the 2016, '17, and '18 NCAA Tournaments). That's doubly-impressive, given the fact that the Pac-12 consists of fewer teams than does every other power conference (save the Big 12).

So: yay, Pac-12!

Other than MSU and SoCar, the SEC has substantially underperformed...and even those two didn't exactly look comfortable for large portions of their games. A&M basically is in on the back of a fluke... and one helluva Frosh player.

The ACC has been pretty darn good. Louisville looked about the best I've seen all year in their game. Notre Dame moves on even with their limited roster. And Duke and NCState were convincing. Only FSU really screwed up.

The B1G simply had a really down year and it carried over...

P12 has been steady but not spectacular. Still we've held chalk pretty well with Cal having the only bad loss, and without their best player, they can be excused.

It all doesn't matter too much since I still haven't seen any team that looks like it can give UConn a game.

The SEC had at least four S16 teams every year from 1983-1992

That's a great run! I knew someone (and probably, specifically, you!) could set me straight on the history. Thank you.

And congrats to the SEC for pulling that off!

I believe this ends a 9 year run for the B1G in the Sweet 16.

Makes me wonder about the future!

There were years when making the S16 meant you won one game.

Teams left in Tournament

Pac 12 ---- 3
ACC ------- 2
SEC ------- 2
AAC ------- 1

The only teams not seeded 1 or 2 are #3 UCLA and #6 Oregon St. Of course all four 1 seeds could win in the next round and the Pac 12 could be left without representation in the Final 4, but this has been another very successful year for the left coast.
