My hat's off to St. Francis; they never quit and kept on coming. They could have played Rutgers basketball and bored the hell out me but to their credit they showed heart, played hard and it appeared they had fun doing it.

I think it wouldn't hurt him to play that bench more. Did he really have to be 50 points up before bringing on Ms. Mollie? And the scrubs might actually get better if they got to play. Worried about the starters not getting a workout? Then just take them off the floor, call up the male practice players, and play a 'game' against them afterward. I'm sure that's better competition for them anyway. I don't think they're learning much by trouncing on a clearly inferior opponent.

As far as a mercy rule, I think it's not a bad idea to give the opponent the option at halftime. I think it would rarely be something an opponent would want to do, but especially in case of injuries or illness or some other circumstances it might be possible.

Geno isn't concerned about developing his bench during the NCAA tournament, assuming he ever is at all. He's only concerned about winning, and the more the top unit plays together, the more Borg they will become.

Geno rarely has gone more than seven deep, and his answer to a mediocre bench is to recruit over them next year.

I can assure you that Jessica Kovatch would have played all game regardless of the score.
