I don't follow FIBA regularly. Why is Musina never mentioned as a draftee? Is it clear for some reason that she isn't interested in the W or that the W would not be interested in her? Just curious. |

The only question I have is about Dallas taking another center. I recognize that Akhator and Lewis didn't show much last year but Akhator is at least playing overseas and for her NT. If they penciled her in as their backup center, would you see them taking someone else? |
These picks are just guesses of whom they might take in the Draft, not necessarily mine. To be honest, I don't like Russell that high but thinking about what they need as a backup Center and Fred picking, I slotted her in there.
As for DeShields, I doubt she will accept going to Chicago, if chosen, as she wants to play for Dallas and Diamond usually {always?} gets what she wants.
Barring a trade and Diamond refusing, I'd guess two of these three for Chicago: Vivians, Williams and Nurse.

I agree ive gotten low on russell over the past few weeks , but i still think Fred and bibb take her , she is the only person in this draft remotely close to filling our need of a back up post.

If Vadeeva says she's playing this season, so that lock her into #2? Would Chicago pass on her with Dolson, Coates & Parker already at center? |
I was worried about Spooner becoming obsessed with Vadeeva. Turns out toad is the most obsessed.
Pokey wanted that #8 pick for a reason. Mitchell or DeShields are unlikely to be around at #8. Vadeeva could be around at #8. If she’s not, no big deal. Grab another nice player. |
My guess on Vadeeva is that she's locked into one or maybe two teams. If they pick her, she might come over but for how long? I don't think she wants to come over to just play in the WNBA but to play for a championship likely team.

Yeah, what the Sparks really need is another post player for Agler to sit on the bench

This is how rumors start. One person says
Quote: |
My guess on Vadeeva is that she's locked into one or maybe two teams" |
based on absolutely nothing but a gut feeling. Another chimes in with
Quote: |
Not sure why, but I have a feeling Vadeeva would prefer being with the Sparks |
based on noticing she plays with Nneka and ignoring Prince and McCoughtry on the same team.
And now suddenly we have a discussion about how a 19 year old is placing diva-ish constraints on where she will go. Sure, folks are entitled to their opinions but this is called creating gossip. Folks will come into this discussion assuming that there was some basis for starting it and take it as fact.

Some of us have mentioned her, and she definitely has an interesting set of skills. I wouldn't be surprised if someone took her in the third round (or even the second if they've run out of appealing Americans). But she hasn't had the playing time or success of Vadeeva (plus true bigs always draw more interest because there just aren't that many), so there hasn't been the same level of hype.
I haven't seen a single public comment from either of them about whether or not they have the slightest interest in the WNBA. But some of us have suggested that if a team takes Vadeeva early, maybe they'd take Musina later on so that they could come over as a package deal. Might make the transition easier (although I also have no idea if they're actually friends). |

#8 - Different team owns this pick since his last mock draft, but the same player is chosen. Makes more sense this time.
Does he have enough guards going to Dallas?
Has Thibault really shown an interest in this Taeler Deer? Seems like his most random pick.
Laimbeer laughed at the notion that he’d choose multiple mid-major players in Megdal’s very first mock draft ever. I guess he didn’t learn from that.

It sounded like you were talking about the Sparks needed, not her needs. But who knows what she wants? At 20 years old, maybe she doesn’t want the high expectations and pressure. Cambage didn’t seem to want it. With the Sparks, Vadeeva could conceivably work her way up to first post off the bench if she’s really all that good. If she’s good and she ends up showing up every year, she helps alleviate cap space (Lavender takes a pay cut or gets traded).
Oh, and Vadeeva only averages 20 mpg on her current team, so it’s not like she’s developed this feeling of entitlement for big minutes.

Post Players Set to Take Spotlight in Women's NCAA Tournament
https://www.si.com/college-basketball/2018/03/09/womens-ncaa-tournament-uconn-auriemma-aja-wilson-teaira-mccowan
Quote: |
It's "the era of the Big Girls," as South Carolina 6'5" senior A'ja Wilson puts it. "Coming in my freshman year it was a guard-heavy game," says Wilson, the likely No. 1 pick in April's WNBA draft. "I had an opportunity to be in the Final Four in 2015, and there were big-time guards like Jewell Loyd of Notre Dame. Now, the post players are taking over. |
Quote: |
A formidable five in the post will have an outsized impact on the Final Four in Columbus, Ohio. |
Quote: |
McCowan's presence in the post creates opportunities for senior All-America shooting guard Victoria Vivians (19.7 ppg) and point guards William and Jazzmun Holmes to drive and drop when they hit a road block in the lane. "She also gives us forgiveness on the defensive end, where if we get beat off the bounce, we still have a 6'7" aircraft carrier waiting," Schaefer says. "She cleans up a lot of our mess." |
Quote: |
Schaefer is no doubt counting down the days until Wilson lands in the WNBA: He has not only had to face her up to three times a year in SEC play, but she also thwarted his title hopes last season |
Quote: |
“Anytime you have someone 6'5" who is that active and touches the ball that many times, you need to double her. You can't guard one-on-one.” |
Quote: |
Stevens ranks fourth in the country in two-point percentage at 68.7%, tops among all players on a top 10 team. She also ranks in the top 2% among players in shooting efficiency, offensive |
Quote: |
If you were going to create the ideal women's college basketball post, you'd start with Kalani Brown's gene pool. Her father is P.J. Brown, who was an exceptional 6'11" post defender during his 15 seasons in the NBA as a forward-center. Her mother, Dee, was a 6'3" forward at Louisiana Tech from 1990–91 through '9 |

WNBA fate could be out of Katelynn Flaherty's hands
https://www.michigandaily.com/section/womens-basketball/katelynn-flaherty-wnba-draft
Quote: |
Michigan’s all-time leading scorer is currently projected to be a second-round pick by mock drafts from both Summit Hoops and Draft Site. But it’s not that simple. |
Quote: |
The WNBA has a bizarre way of handling younger players. During training camp, many of the league’s stars are still finishing up their seasons in Europe. As a result, teams will take fliers on second-rounders, then cut them after training camp barring a strong performance. |
Telling it like it is.
Quote: |
An anonymous WNBA talent evaluator described her as a likely late second-round pick with potential to go in the third, but was skeptical of her chances to make a team. |
Is this evaluator me?
Quote: |
The evaluator’s team is already set at both guard positions and with smaller players at that. Flaherty doesn’t fit there from a personnel standpoint. And yet, the evaluator’s team might still draft her.
“I don’t particularly think that she’s better than what we have,” she said. “So she’s somebody maybe, if we, in the second round or third round, want a player like that to come to camp, then that would be somebody we’d look at.” |
This “evaluator” appears to be a female WNBA coach. Katie Smith?
Quote: |
The biggest factor as to whether she’ll stick in the WNBA isn’t how she plays, it’s where she goes. Unfair as it may be, that’s reality. |
Keeping it real.

They still only have 44-45 players in their database. It’s been like that for a long while.
What’s different is they added a third round, and some of the players they have in the third round are humorous, namely Kia Nurse and Ariel Atkins.

It's funny because as of last week they only had about 30 players in their database. I typically have to message them regarding trades and which players to add.
