“We are one of the only countries in the world that doesn’t have a domestic, professional league,” explains Denise Dignard, director of high performance for the Canadian women’s national program. She adds that a domestic league would not only serve as an inspiration to young girls, but it would also help keep players in Canada longer while connecting different regions and provinces throughout the country. “The quality of our pool is improving tremendously,” she says. “From my lens, having a league will undoubtedly grow the women’s game further.”
There’s no compelling argument against establishing a league, or a WNBA franchise, here in Canada. |

Nice article , i do agree the W should look to expand into Canada when everything settles down . Toronto or Vancouver could possibly draw well .

I think a team in Toronto would do well. But I also feel a team in Nashville, San Francisco & Philadelphia would do well. And returning to Houston, Sacramento, Cleveland and Portland would be good for the league. Sad there aren't 8 ownership groups out there to make these happen. Imagine the league at 20 teams?

Supposedly 34 games are ideal for a summer league. How would 20 teams work with 34 games? 18 teams would be more idea for 34 games.... play each team twice.
Can’t move to a winter league unless they can compete with overseas salaries.

20 teams, they'd have to increase the schedule to at least 38 games(play each team twice).
With these 20, we'd have:
EAST
New York Liberty(hopefully in Brooklyn)
Connecticut Sun
Washington Mystics
Philadelphia
Atlanta Dream
CENTRAL
Toronto
Cleveland Rockers
Indiana Fever
Chicago Sky
Nashville
MIDWEST
Minnesota Lynx
Las Vegas Aces
Phoenix Mercury
Dallas Wings
Houston Comets
PACIFIC
Seattle Storm
Portland Fire
Sacramento Monarchs
Golden State
Los Angeles Sparks
