But he dances around with the Democrats talking DACA-amnesty. At one point he even seemed open to their proposal of "amnesty now, funding for the wall at some future date". He didn't campaign saying "I will end Obama's DACA IMMEDIATELY... and then grant them all amnesty".

Yes, and it will be very tough to get money for the wall. The majority on both sides of the aisle don't want it.
I think that if Trump pushes for more "needed-skills immigration", we will just end up with more immigration. There won't be any cut in "unneeded skills immigration". It was recently reported that 71% of the tech workers in Silicon Valley are foreign born. Maybe we are shooting for 100%.
