Somehow they get both the worst player and the worst pick in this trade Laughing

Interesting trade.

Indiana get a mid-late 1st round pick in what is supposed to be a deep draft.

Phoenix replaced D. Rob with B. January, plus, essentially trades a 2019 2nd round pick for 2018 1st round pick.

Minnesota gets D. Rob and a 2019 2nd round pick.

I think everyone gets something they needed.

D. Rob is serviceable for Minn, a good defender, at least pre-injury, and could be good to back up Whalen, changes the pace, etc.

For Phx, I think January is an upgrade over D. Rob, plus they got a late 2018 first round pick.

For Indiana, they lose January, which is big, but get the # 8 pick, which could be good.

I think Phx came out best, next Indiana, and Minn in last. That said, I don't think it was a bad trade for Minn.

I had a feeling January might want to go to Arizona.

Knew of/suspected January would be obtained through trade long, long ago; yet figured it best not to mention or speculate.

D-Rob is cool, yet I am ecstatic to welcome Bri home!

The Merc twitter said the greatest women's player in Arizona State history was coming to the team, and my first thought was "Isn't Kym Hampton retired?"

Maybe part 2 involves Bonner to Indiana and the Fever send Minnesota something?

There have been two separate trades. January for #8; and Robinson + 2019 2nd for #12. What you suggest is randomly nonsensical.

So when did it become en vogue to hate on D-Rob? I've always liked her game, especially her speed and length, and was thrilled when I heard the news. She isn't a shooter, but the Lynx don't really need one with Jones emerging.

But this is a all-star caliber player who is a very good defender, and who has led the league in assists before. Last year was a down year for her, but she was coming off injury and at 28 is in her prime and of age with Maya and Fowles.

It's hardly hating to believe that a trade was lopsided. I personally feel DRob was not the same player in Phoenix as in San Antonio. Injury? Situation? Hard to say. But she lost her starting spot to Mitchell and her 3 point shot.

Also, the responses were when I didn't have the detail about the 2nd round pick added in. I think that makes it a bit more balanced.

I’m not surprised they made a trade like this but was hoping they could have put it off until they see what shows up at #12, similar to what they did in the Perkins draft day trade. If something perceived as good shows up at #12, there’s bound to be some angst and second guessing.

The Lynx prefer to work in known quantities. With a rookie (unless it’s somebody like Wilson) you never know what you might end up with. Lonely’s recent resume is not good: replaced by a rookie PG in SAN and subsequently bumped by a bunny in PHX, but obviously the Lynx think they can salvage Lonely’s career. If she can stay healthy and the Lynx get to work on that three point shot, maybe even I will like her even though I’ve never been a big fan.

Phoenix needed a shooter on the floor last year more than they needed another ball handler/ slasher (the Merc seem to like to have the ball in Taurasi's hands as much as possible, for good reason), which is why D-Rob lost out to Mitchell. The Lynx are much better suited for her style of play, and really could use her defense.

But D-Rob is certainly worth a 12th pick to a win-now team, IMO. I wouldn't call that lopsided. The 2nd rounder just makes even better.

Yeah - I don't like this trade precisely for the reasons justintyme likes it. Robinson had a bad year, for her, but we don't know how much of that is injury recovery and how much was the fit. At worst, even if Robinson is glued to the Lynx bench- she would be about the same as pick No. 12 would be. If she does return to form - then the Lynx have made a very good deal.

Whay went through a few years where she only took about a dozen 3s a season. If DRob can just get passes to the scorers, that may be her biggest asset on this team.
