A team that shoots 50% from the free throw line and consequently loses each of their 30 games by one point is still 0-30.
No one is holding a parade for an 0-30 team.

Thank you, Art, for personifying my point so very clearly.

Pat you are a great fan. Don't get so down on what is said. UCLA had one of the highly touted classes 4 years ago and I think a lot of people expected better results. But thats the way the cookie crumbles.

UCLA's free throw shooting has been abysmal this season. It has been the most frustrating of everything I have seen from them. In their losses (except UConn), they shot 56 out of 89. When you consider how close some of these games have been, it doesn't take a lot to see where improvement has been needed.
I too am a Bruin fan, but this team has really frustrated me. Even with the seniors #1 ranked class, I had no expectation of a national championship, per se. But I did expect a little more cohesiveness and consistency. Not sure what they issue is, but clearly there is one. I am all for passion plays but, as I said to a friend, passion plays mean nothing if you lose. There is an expectation of winning and of all the losses, except UConn (and Oklahoma State, who impressed me with their win) all of the Bruins losses, were of their own doing..... Too many times they allowed themselves (or their coaches allowed) and then they had to dig themselves out. I give props to the opponents who caused these issues, but (IMO) the Bruins are truly their own worst enemy.

Free throw shooting overall has declined in recent years. It seems that now announcers think a player with a 70% rate is wonderful. ISTM that it used to be fairly common for players to shoot 70% from the line, but maybe I'm delusional.

I find it a bit funny that Stanford is so bad this year as it has always been one of Tara's pet peeves - leaving those free points at the line. Of course Johnson is a big part of the problem, but not really the only one. I guess it must not be emphasized much at the HS level these days...then again Pilight can probably tell us that it hasn't changed as much as we think.

So, I finally get to settle in and watch the game tonight. Some very remarkable stuff. Though it might not make the Top Ten Best Games Ever Played, it certainly was a beautiful exposition of incredible talent in the PAC 12, and a whole boatload of gamesmanship

PATRICK T. McSWEET! Why would you say such a hyperbolic statement? That's utterly absurd. This mentality of "Win or you're nothing" is what's pathetic. UCLA has been more prominent than any other time I can remember. And there IS the tourney yet.

What, the 'let it all crush you' syndrome? Or the "My universe has ended cuz we didn't win" phenomenon?
