Boom boom boom go the Cal 3s down the stretch!

And they made their FTs.

Great way to finish the game.

our Trees deserved to lose. Congrats to Cal. I've never seen them make so many threes. If they could do that on a regular basis, they could make some noise.

This was your quote from Thursday night. For me, its for a whole season of losing 9 straight games to top 40 RPI teams and sweating out whether USC would stay in the top 50 or the Committee would take pity on a team that beat everyone else but went 0-11 against the top 50 teams (assuming a second round loss in the Pac 12 tourney).

This win will make my 750 mile drive up to Seattle so much more hopeful. And to think that we did it without a major contribution from Anigwe.

Finally a big shout out to Mikayla Cowling on her Senior Day, a Berkeley girl who started four years at Cal. I saw her mom several times at the games and didn't even realize she was Mikayla's mom for a few years. She is a wonderful woman who raised a fantastic daughter.

Mikayla has been the heart of the Bears team the last few years, She has played every game (125) in her 4 years, and has started all but 7 in her freshman season. Even in her freshman season she averaged 31 minutes per game, and she has averaged over 33 minutes per game over her career. She was more of an offensive player her first two seasons, but after high school teammate Gabby Green transferred to Loyola Marymount she became the defensive stalwart for the Bears.

And a shout out to Penina Davidson, our other senior. Davidson is from New Zealand. She has improved every season and has been very important as an inside presence, particularly when Krisine Anigwe has been out or in foul trouble. She is also a wonderful young woman with whom I have had the pleasure to have a few conversations.

A great day for these two wonderful young women.

I used to think Cowling could be a pro player. She showed so much promise but somehow it never quite developed. But I wish her well wherever life's path takes her.

And yeah, I've often regretted that we weren't able to keep Davidson. But maybe she developed better in that situation than she would have on the farm. I always thought it was classy of Tara to 'give' her to Cal when it was apparent she couldn't meet entrance requirements.

Always kinda sad to see the Seniors go.

Good luck in Seattle...except against one team Wink

Tara has always been classy, as has everyone I have ever met associated with Stanford women's basketball. But it is always great to beat them.
