For week 14 I have taken one game each from 20 different conferences to get a good cross-section of the country. There are only 2 more weeks (15 & 16) in the regular season, and the last week will be largely smaller conferences after the Sunday games. I was thinking about having some kind of a pick 'em contest for the Conference tournaments and would appreciate your thoughts as to interest and structure. I will put together some possibilities in the next week, but any other thoughts are appreciated.

Week 13 is in the books. Pilight was able to confound us with his slate of games to such a degree that the average score was just over 9, or 45%. Despite the general difficulties Adamj and Summertimeblues were able to pick 12 of the 20 games correctly to win the week, the second straight week they tied for top honors. Myrtle was the only other player to top 50% with 11.

Week 13 Standings

1) Adamj 12
1) Summertime 12
3) Myrtle 11
4) Pureform 9

Well, so FAR, Mr. Cal Man....you're doing a great job yourself of 'confounding'. I've gotten ONE out of today's 5 games correct. You keep this up, and yes, Myrtle is guaranteed victory over me. Evil or Very Mad

Don't necessarily confuse your difficulties with those of the group as a whole (but some others, including myself, struggled as well)

Here are two possibilities for conference tournament prediction games:

1) Major Conference Tournament game:

Option A:
Pick all games based on the original bracket before the tournament starts. Get 1 point for correctly picking a favorite; 2 points for picking an underdog (defined as anyone other than the highest seeded team that could get to that position). Favorites are determined by the tournament seeding. Get 1 additional point for correctly picking the tournament winner. There could be a winner for each conference and an overall winner.

Option B:
Same as A but games are picked each day. The difficulty is making sure to get picks in each day before games start. Also the 2 to 1 point differential for underdogs would have to be adjusted down to 3 to 2 for fairness.

2) All tournament game

Pick the winner for each tournament. Get points equal to the number of the seed for each correct pick + 2 points. (i.e., picking the #1 seed correctly gets 3 points, picking the #4 seed correctly gets 6 points)

Please post whether you are interested in either or both games and whether you have any suggestions. Also, my thought is that the major tournaments would be the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Big East, Pac 12 and SEC but I could include others or take out the Big East based on peoples' wishes. Everyone is welcome in the game(s), whether or not they have been in the season-long game.

I'm in for the all tournament game. Not to keen on having to make picks every day.

Are we getting Week 15 games today or do you want me to pick another slate?

For the second to last week of games I have looked primarily to the top 6 conferences and battles for the top position in other conferences. Hopefully this will allow Howie to get some games right.

Hey--"Eenie Meenie" is still my fave method, no matter what. Razz

Yes, I'm all for the tourney competition. Especially if the cumulative scores are accrued--THIS will give me ample opportunity to come from the Depths of Despair, and overtake the Arrogant Ones. Twisted Evil (no names, but their initials are "Murdle" and "Cali-Bear".)

Re: format? I can live with A or B, but think BEast should be scratched.

I don't like either tournament format and probably won't play. I am against conference tournaments in general and especially in one-bid leagues where upsets in tournaments happen and the best team sometimes is left out.

No problem. It might be just as well since you are kicking my butt badly (and beating everyone else as well) so far this week.

I actually agree with you as it relates to the one-bid leagues. Teams like Gonzaga, Mercer or Belmont will most likely not get at large berths but those are the teams that would have the best chance at winning a first round NCAA game. In the Colonial the JMU-Drexel game would mean more if the regular season winner got the automatic bid. But if they are going to play the games, I am going to follow the results.
