Stanford 37 Cal 35 Halftime

Stanford scored the first 9 points and led by as many as 11 in the first quarter but Cal hung in and kept the game close. In the second quarter, with Anigwe on the bench, Cal took the lead briefly before Stanford hit a 3 at the buzzer to take the 2 point lead at the half.

Kiana Williams leads Stanford with 14 points on 4-4 3pt FG. Britney McPhee has only 4 points on 2-9 FG shooting

For Cal Asha Thomas leads with 10 points and 3 steals. Anigwe had only 2 points and was 0-5 from the floor, but only had 1 foul.

Cal hanging in but Stanford scores the last 7 points of the third quarter to run out to an 8 point lead.

Stanford 57-49

Cal is also getting into foul trouble as Davidson has 4 and Anigwe, West and Smith all have 3

Oooh that was a close one. Nice game by Cal. McPhee trying to shoot us out of the game but Williams and Fingall holding it down.

Stanford 74 Cal 69 Final

Cal tried to climb back into the game in the final minute but Stanford made its free throws and held on for the win. Cal will get another shot at the Cardinal in 41 1/2 hours at Berkeley. While that may seem to be an advantage the Bears have a better record in Palo Alto in recent years. Still it was good to see Cal put forth a solid effort against a top team in the Pac 12 after their losses against Oregon, Oregon St and UCLA twice earlier this season.
