PG: Clarendon/Montgomery
SG: Hayes/Sykes
SF: McCoughtry/draft pick
PF: Williams/Breland
C: Dantas/Stafford-McGhee

Dantas is even less of a center than Williams

Breland is good replacement for Sancho. I know some of the Sky fans were not thrilled with her, but she seemed to do well against us. We finally have some depth at the PG position with two starter quality players. All new coaching staff, new players and Angel's return so it may take some time to get the team to gel.

I was a Breland fan before the Sky acquired her. I am sad to see her leave. I wish her the best with her new team. Just not against the Sky of course! Very Happy

I love Sancho, but I agree, she was losing a step and we need a PF who isn't putting up 97% of their shots from the elbow. She was great on defense and getting in the passing lane, but more was needed.

Breland and Montgomery are great additions to this team and I am very excited. I am hoping they don't trade Clarendon because having 2 true PGs who can also scoot to the 2 when needed is a great thing. It gives very needed depth off the bench.

Yeah I kind of think Young will reunite with Pokey in Indy, but Atl will need someone to back up Angel if Holmes is out for this season. I could see them drafting Hines-Allen at #16 or hoping one of Nared or S. Thomas lasts until #16. A. Montgomery played at GA Tech, maybe she ends up in Atl as Angel's backup.

I would expect mostly three guard sets when Angel is off the floor.

In theory, anyway. This assumes you've got five players willing to do 24 minutes/game or one or two OK with playing even less. I'm not sure that's the Dream situation.

Montgomery's been maxing out at 20ish for years (and shouldn't be playing any more than that). Plus you've got Angel maybe sliding over to play a little 4, and they won't all stay fit for 34 games. So I think that'd probably work out okay, but a 6th or 7th perimeter player might not get much of a look in without long-term injuries/absences.

By the way, do we have any actual confirmation that McCoughtry is definitely playing this year? I vaguely remember it being half-implied, but that's about it.

I've seen nothing official. The team has said they "anticipate" her return.

As a rookie she worked out very well as the Lynx starting center.

I'm quite happy with this lineup. Quite the veteran lineup for 1st & 2nd string. I think Dantas would do fine at the 5. And she & Williams could switch as needed. I am hoping Stafford-McGhee takes a good leap forward this season.

My feelings about Dantas are affected by the way Michael Cooper used her. Hopefully Collen will keep her down in the paint.

Collen’s making moves.

I guess Montgomery is from Atlanta. I hope it doesn’t become a trend that players want to return to their ATL roots. Embarassed

She's not originally from Atlanta, she just lives there now. Quite a few current and former W players live in the Atlanta area.

Not impressed with the Montgomery signing. If she becomes lead guard and they trade Clarendon, that’s a step backwards. Montgomery can knock down some big shots but she’s a terrible decision maker when she has the ball in her hands. It’ll be interesting to see how badly Sienko fucks this team up like he did in CT for years.

Somewhere Thibault made it clear he was responsible for all player personnel decisions at the Sun. That’s why I refer to Sienko as the rubber stamp GM.

Hahaha, I think you are safe for a bit there Shades. Not saying I wouldn't welcome her, but I think you don't have anything to worry about...yet? Wink

Why would I worry? She’s only the franchise.... and her contract is up after this season.

“I spoke with Coach Collen for a long time and was very excited with the direction she wanted to take the franchise,” Montgomery added. “I could feel her passion over the phone so I’m excited to see what’s in store. I think this is an exciting time for Atlanta. With Chris Sienko and Coach Collen leading the way, I think the future looks good. Really really good.”

Yeah - will miss Sancho, and I hope they do a nice tribute to her like they did for Erika. Looks like Phoenix will be the perfect fit for her with her familiarity with the players and coach. She will help on defence which was a shortcoming for the Mercury. Wish her well.

wonder if the Dream is done with free agency or is there a trade in the works guess it depends on if Dantas or Angel returns. Cant see Ajavon or Morello returning.

Ajavon can probably find a spot somewhere, but probably not the Dream - Lynx maybe? After the last 2 years can't see anyone wanting Morello, although she was doing pretty well in China (not that that is a high standard) so maybe she is finally healthy again.

If this wasn’t done in previous seasons, it’s kind of genius of the new front office. Those little extras to make a player feel wanted could make all the difference.

Yes, it's been up for every trip I've taken for work over the past year and a half or so.
