This is very interesting. I like the fact that it allows student-athletes to transfer without permission from current school and become immediately eligible at the new school if a coach leaves or gets fired. If that turns out to be how it all works, are all those players suddenly recruitable again?

Also, interesting that they would extend the "sit out year" to all sports and not just the 5 major ones. Not sure the world of wrestling, volleyball, etc would be too excited about that change.

One step forward, one step back ...

Just let everyone transfer wherever they want at the start of the school year, and you don't have to worry about investigations, violations, paperwork, unfair treatment, etc.

Mid-year transfers could still be constrained, though conceivably an appeal process could be put in place. Seems like a lot of trouble, though, for a very small number.

I guess the extension to other sports is just to punish college athletes for asking for the same freedoms as their coaches, administrators and teachers.
