Get Out should win all the awards, but it probably won't

I haven't seen it, but most disagreed with you. It was very well reviewed and made a lot of money. According to Metacritic, it is both the best reviewed and highest-grossing of the BP nominees.

toad, could you try it again? (i know - shouldn't be like taking medicine!) not unlike "saving private ryan," it showed an aspect of war we'd never seen. i've told friends it's not really a "war movie" in the traditional sense. until some other stellar competitors came along, i figured "dunkirk" easily had the oscar. oscar loves films like this. but there have been some really good, original pieces this year.

My wife introduced this movie to me. It literally knocked my socks off! If you want to watch something that is fun and very different from the norm then you have to watch this movie! Very Happy Very Happy

I'm with you. It is the only time I've watched a war movie and been bored to tears.

I've seen Get Out, The Shape of Water, Dunkirk, 3 Billboards, Molly's Game Mudbound, Wonder Women. My vote goes to 3 Billboards. Got tired of the guy running. (Dunkirk) TSOW, only thing good about that movie is Michael Shannon. Molly's Game didn't get nominated but should have. Get Out was FUN!!!! One of the most original movies I've seen in years. Will not win. The great Denzel Washington won't win. Frances Mac should win. Gary Oldman will win. I'm done.

PEACE & LOVE GO MYSTICS!!!!!

"get out" crosses over into so many buckets of goodness, i'm afraid that will be its downfall. for its originality, i figured original screenplay would fit, but no. it surpasses all the categories as traditionally defined. it deserves a special "outside the box" award.

It should win Best Picture. It won't, of course, because it's exactly the kind of movie most of the Academy despises. They'd much rather honor a war movie that's not really a war movie, a Coen brothers wannabe, or a sexy fish.

I didn't find it boring or terrible as much as confusing. I get the idea of telling the story from multiple viewpoints but it seemed as though they were jumping around in time as well. Also, it was too narrow in focus dealing only with a handful of participants in it, while kind ignoring the big picture.

It took me a while to figure out that the land part of the story took place over a week, the sea over a day, and the air over an hour.

That being said, I think it was the best movie this year.

You don't even know how many fishmen tried out for that part? There were some really sexy fishmen who were terrible actors, and some fishmen who were great actors but weren't very hot, or sounded like Gilbert Gotfired, Del Toro really lucked out when that sexy, talented, fishmen walked through the door.

PS I also think Get Out should win, and that type of movie almost always gets the best original screenplay as a consolation prize, and it might, but Ladybird also falls into that "we should really give the people behind this movie something, for making a cool, modern movie, but its not going to win best picture" category.
