I kinda like Ms Bent best of the bunch. She definitely hustles and tries to get others involved. Kinda Faris-like. It kinda felt like the rest of them were just anxious to score (which they didn't do) before they got yanked. It wasn't pretty.

For my fantasy team, it would be nice if she shot better than 25% from the FT li ne tonight

Justine Ward to Geno, postgame on the court:

"What's your take away?"

"My take away? I'd like to take their uniforms away."

Exit, stage right.

Wow. the UConn bench vs. Tulsa. I was conflicted. I was glad the benchies got time, but I didn't want to watch the game.

What the heck is a golden hurricane, anyway? There are no hurricanes in Oklahoma. Probably nothing to do with Russian hookers.

Starters didn't look much better. KLS hardly played and re-injured her ankle. Williams hobbled off near the end of the game after landing on her left leg. Her right leg is the one that had two ACL surgeries.

Nurse continued to zing the string from the wing ring, 5 out of 7 times, but her contribution was diluted by the heads.

Batouly Camara gets zero minutes. Why?

Don't forget CD's shin splints.

UConn is hanging on by a thread. I wonder if the FF is in their future this year.

I'm glad it's mid-Jan and not mid-March.

It's really kinda hard to blame him, they really stunk, like they wouldn't have beaten Tulsa, or just about anybody...but there is also the valid argument that if Joanne P said such a thing many would be up in arms about it.

the reality is that hanging by a thread or not, there isn't a better team in the country. life is tough for a UConn fan of course, but no, we ain't gonna feel sorry for you.

didn't ask for, and not interested in, yours or anyone else's sympathy. Smile

i remember lots of people thought UConn was the best team last year and would win the NC.

Geno savages the team in his presser. Most disgraceful effort in his 32 years in coaching. Everyone should get their money back. Thinking of going to a five player lineup because Stevens can't stop a layup. Can't think of one positive thing to say about the game.

I am glad Geno said that because I have never felt worse about an undefeated team in my years watching the UConn WIMIN. I thought I was being too hard.

I get a feeling about a team. And this is the worst feeling I've had since the final 4 streak started in 2008. We have a team of 6 players and with some small stretches when they go down low to Z they all act like guards. All finesse.

I don't have nearly as good a feeling about this team as I expected. I expected them to be better than last year, but they seem to be worse on both offense and defense.

Last year was only a seven player lineup. CD was sixth and Butler seventh. Only Chong graduated, but I expected CD to at least fill her shoes and probably more. Then Butler transferred, but the much, much better Stevens would take her spot. And then there were four new freshman coming in: one NPOY (Walker), two McD AA's (Walker, Coombs), one Jordan AA (Gordon), and one U16 team second high scorer and NY State POY (AEH). A robust lineup was expected.

And yet, UConn is now a six player team, with Geno being unhappy with the sixth and and just about given up on the rest of the team. On top of that, all of the AA's from last year -- KLS, NC and GW -- are having worse years than last year, and I really don't expect more than one of them to repeat the way it's going.

I do not think people would be upset if Joanne P. McCallie made those statements, had they been blinded by her 11 national championship rings.

There is reason for concern with this team being as physically fragile (Katie, chronic ankle injury; Crystal, shin splints and Gabby, hip flexor)
as there is enough concern to warrant the calculated whole scale substitution in the second quarter which turned out to be a complete calculated disaster. As much heart and hustle Molly and Kayla possess, which is a lot, they do not have the talent to start for an elite team let alone guide three raw inexperienced elite talented freshman through their first collective foray for an entire quarter. Even with the presence of Stevens, this unit struggled. From all indications in the post game press conference, Geno intends to use that second quarter as fodder in practice to see if he can motivate the frosh to playing the way he wants them to play.

Right now, this team with its acute lack of depth and chronic nagging injuries is ripe for the taking, not only with Louisville but South Carolina in the regular season and in the sweet sixteen in the Tournament. Don't be surprised when it happens - I won't.

The wholesale substitution to the second unit was weird. I get he thinks he is trying to motivate them, but that's pretty obviously setting them up to fail.
