As discussed in the Hot Seat thread, Balcomb resigned "to focus on dealing with a family medical issue."

There's rumour that Balcomb had it out with Candace before she left.

It's weird to see a mid-major, with little history of success, fire a coach midseason. There has to be something else going on here.

Fire? What's your basis for assuming the article is wrong?
It may be, but I'm just wondering what you know that isn't in the article.

The AD's quote in the article makes it pretty clear, IMO.
Quote: |
"After meeting with him this morning Joey Wells has submitted his resignation as head women's basketball coach," Clinkscales said. "The team's competitive performance over the past three years and specifically its performance over the last year and half have not shown the progress that either Coach Wells or I had hoped. " |

The medical issue: Balcomb was sick and tired of working at Texas Tech.

Thats my guess, Brown left after last season, so I am assuming they were waiting on someone (post season this year). Maybe Porter will slide back over if his boys go Pro after season?

That is one of the most disgusting things I've read recently. I saw it last night on Twitter and thought "how effing juvenile!" I'd say his career in basketball, player development or otherwise, is toast.

Washington State University coach June Dougherty is taking A medical leave of absence from her team. Her husband, and associate on the team, will coach the team in her absence.

Lake Erie College fired their longtime basketball coach, Bob Booher, along with the assistant coach Darren Jones. Graduate assistant Sarah Bonar is how the head coach and Sharday Baines has been added to the staff. (Not familiar with this school, assume they are D-II or D-III or maybe even NAIA, but I thought that was a pretty extreme step!)

Lake Eric College is in D-II.

LEC director of public relations Michelle Kolk said Booher was dismissed for what she called "an unspecified violation of the employee handbook." She declined to elaborate further on the violation.
In a telephone interview with The News-Herald, Booher confirmed his firing and said Jones was not cited for any infraction. Booher said he was informed of his dismissal Jan. 22 by Kish and Andrea Myers, LEC’s director of human resources.
"I have no comment beyond saying this hit me out of left field," Booher said. |

Had a feeling that was coming...too bad, I really like Erik. Hopefully he can land on his feet in a top assistant position with a good program.
