They could just give Pondexter Carson's money (Essence is also an UFA), or trade R. Williams. I could see R. Williams to PX for Cannon maybe, or A. Prince and a 2nd rounder, or something like R. Williams and #11 for #8 if it is mainly to save some salary cap.
Gray/#8 (Canada, L. Brown, Nurse)
Sims/Pondexter
Beard/Weise
Ogwumike/TJJ
Parker/Lavender
Sims and Pondexter can also back up the PG spot so Agler wouldn't have to use the rookie that much
or could use #8 on Billings if you want a little more banging down low, or if you want to keep Carson instead of TJJ.
2nd round pick, waiver wire or barely used International to fill out the roster

Just to mention, we're at the stage now where both teams and players/agents will start to wonder whether they actually want max years on new contracts. The mutual CBA opt-out option is after the 2019 season, and invariably one side or the other is upset enough with the status-quo to activate it. So teams might be wary of giving out 3 or 4-year max deals, in case a new CBA makes the cap maths tighter; and top players might not want to sign for more than two in case a new CBA opens things up for them to be paid significantly more.
So we could see a lot of two-year contracts (not that the teams are ever open about how long the deals are anyway). |

A team must really love a player to sign her to a contract that is over two years in length if that player is over thirty years old.

The Quigmire seemed happy getting 6th woman awards over the years - probably is not all that hung up on best a starter. Question is why wouldn't the Sky offer her the same thing, or better?

Never mind just offering her a similar contract; I'd say there's a decent chance that Chicago core Quigley to prevent anyone else even having a shot. |

I'd love to hear that Charles signed a multi-year extension with the Liberty!

For what it's worth, players aren't officially allowed to start negotiating anything until January 15th. Hence a lack of things happening is what we should be seeing. Officially. |

It's the unofficial stuff that has been quiet. Last year I'd already known about Dupree being on the block and all the details of the Delle Donne trade were known to a lot of folks. Pretty quiet all around. Might just mean that new coaches don't talk as much and also that all the big names will re-sign with existing teams.

UFAs (*LAS= LA Sparks, LAV= Las Vegas Aces):
Danielle Adams - doubtful she's in shape, doesn't get signed.
Matee Ajavon - signs with ATL
Alana Beard - unless she's retired, signs with LAS
Jessica Breland - stays with CHI
Rebekkah Brunson - stays with MIN
Monique Currie - retired
Ha Eun Joo - really?
Sandrine Gruda - only LAS would sign her if she plays.
Allison Hightower - could be a decent back-up SF with WAS, ATL
Zofia Hruscakova - nope.
Tiffany Jackson-Jones - Agler should keep her over Gruda.
Shenise Johnson - I'd bet she goes elsewhere, possibly PHX or NYL.
Lynetta Kizer - could go elsewhere with Ogwumike back, possibly SEA or MIN
Ivory Latta - stays with WAS
Camille Little - stays with PHX
Sancho Lyttle - goes elsewhere, possibly MIN, SEA or WAS
Alex Montgomery - likely stays with LAV
Renee Montgomery - stays with MIN
Aneka Morello - stays with ATL
Shay Murphy - doubtful to sign anywhere, 2017 was a bust.
Emmeline Ndongue - really?
Courtney Paris - stays with DAL, even if Cambage comes over.
Kayla Pedersen - can only see her staying in CON if they need her.
Jia Perkins - retired?
Plenette Pierson - retired
Jeanette Pohlen-Mavunga - rotation guard with an injury history, someone will bring her in.
Cappie Pondexter - rumors are she wants out of CHI, maybe to LAS of Beard retires?
Noelle Quinn - can only see SEA taking her back.
Jennie Simms - ehhh
Shekinna Stricklen - stays with CON
Carolyn Swords - wasteful in SEA, maybe Laimbeer brings her LAV? or she goes back to NYL?
Diandra Tchatchouang - really?
Kia Vaughn - if Swords comes back to NYL, she's gone. Maybe IND, SEA or MIN?
Tanisha Wright - retired
Tamera Young - stays in ATL

Why would Tiff Jackson go back to LA? Agler demonstrated clearly that he has no faith in her during the playoffs.

Pretty much the list is as expected, with a few changes. Guess the talk about Langhorne being a UFA was just wrong - she's cored again.
Ajavon and Morello, if they do come back should be training camp contracts. We don't really need Young, but it's not like FA players have ever been interested in playing for the Dream so maybe they will sign her. I also could see Sancho moving on, esp. if the Dream can get a good replacement - Breland seems like the BPA for that position.

New coach who seems pretty popular with the people in the league; maybe it's a new era.

Don't know why names like this cropped up. Usually they only list the unrestricted free agents who played last year. Otherwise the list could be near-infinitely long. Mytle is unrestricted free agent.
I guess Cambage is still under the rookie contract. There was some debate about that. Otherwise she'd be listed somewhere.
Reeve's not coring anybody. Not giving a qualifying offer to Katrina Elhotova. Stumbling already or does she have a plan that doesn't involve Elhotova, Montgomery, or Perkins?

This is a pretty weak UFA class. Given the expected retirements and players likely to stay with their current teams, it is hard to see a team made up of the UFA's even making the playoffs.
Here is my starting 5, excluding Brunson and Montgomery who I think will stay with MN. If those two were to move, I put Brunson the starting lineup and move Breland and to the bench. Cappie/Montgomery would probably split time at PG.
Breland
Stricklen
Paris
S. Johnson
Pondexter
Bench
Young
Swords
Perkins
Latta
Lytltle
Of course, this team probably would have salary cap problems.

OK here is a sign and trade prediction based on the above
K. Bone sign and traded to LV for #13 pick
Laimbeer originally drafted Bone, she had a decent rookie season in NY, #13 in this draft is just valuable enough that PX won't feel robbed, and PX probably doesn't want to pay Bone anything anyway. Seems very much like a Laimbeer kind of trade. Bone delivers the goods with a new lease on her career trader Bill looks like a genius, it doesn't work out he didn't give up too much, and can focus on Wilson.

Bone needs to hope there's a team out there that won't put up with her attitude and give her a second chance.
What's the chance Dupree heads back to Phoenix with Bonner? Everything thinks Bonner will end up in Indiana. Dupree to Phoenix for Little? Phoenix doesn't have much to offer right now.
I tend to think Johnson will want out of Indiana and play on a better team. Indiana will likely be another lottery team after 2018.

If Bonner were to stay in PHX, would Dupree at Las Vegas (300 mi) be close enough?

From things I've heard around Indy, there's very little chance. Although I fully admit someone with more insider knowledge than me might have heard otherwise.

Yes but I think both of them being cored will really limit their ability to end up together. And I'm not sure they will both play if they are not able to also be with their children regularly. I doubt they both play if they are in different cities, even cities that are not too far apart. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think they both want to play, and play on the same team.
The right trade or trades might be out there but I'm not confident that it will work out. When players are cored, of a certain age, and you know they want to be together how much leverage does the team with that player have in a trade. (Unless the ground work for the trade is already in place and the coring was just a formality.)
Bonner to Indy for #14 and Coleman
Dupree to PX for Cannon and #20
Even something like that seems a little expensive

With the W scheduling, it's still pretty hard to spend time together....even though Vegas tends to be a cheap and quick airline trip, so might be doable in one sense, there's still who's on the road and who's at home. And I would think the distraction would also be a negative...

There's also the little matter of Laimbeer liking defense and physical play. Does that sound like DuPree?
Did anyone suggest Bone for DuPree yet? I thought I saw it somewhere. Aging talent for high maintenance but still young talent.

Bone is better than any backup they had last season, so unless they trade her to get Dupree back, maybe the Mercury keep her?

The RFAs are hard to figure out. I think some will see their WNBA careers end. Some stay on their current teams.
RESTRICTED FREE AGENTS
Kelsey Bone (PHX) - the wildcard. depends who wants to throw money at her.
Sydney Colson (LVS) - can get a cheaper backup PG.
Stefanie Dolson (CHI) - max deal with CHI?
Amber Harris (CHI) - gone
Bria Hartley (NYL) - vet minimum with NY?
Tianna Hawkins (WAS) - stays with WAS.
Jordan Hooper (CHI) - three point specialist that can land anywhere.
Natasha Howard (MIN) - stays with MIN, though not on a max deal.
Kayla McBride (LVS) - stays with LVS, max deal?
Theresa Plaisance (DAL) - if Cambage comes over, I can see DAL letting her go elsewhere.
Odyssey Sims (LAS) - stays with LAS, max deal?
Alyssa Thomas (CON) - stays with CON, max deal?

Mostly agree except I think max money is not that hard to come by.
NY fans seems to undervalue Hartley, but teams won't. I think she gets max money.
Howard could also get max if she is willing to move.
I think maybe Hooper stays with the Sky and gives them another target for Sloot's passes. Wouldn't mind having her back on the Dream.[/b]

I see a team like PHX maybe or ATL throwing money at Howard which will force minny to make a tough decision.
