The Irish media take on the game:

http://www.und.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/010318aaa.html

We should about Lili Thompson's condition today, but she has already been ruled out of this game, leaving ND with only 7 scholarship players. The two players that will not start tomorrow are players that figured to play a small role for the team this year, as ND has already lost F Brianna Turner, F Mikayla Vaughn, and G Mychal Johnson to ACL injuries. If Lili is out for the season, she will be the 4th player lost.

Muffet has already added a 3rd walk-on to try to get enough bodies on the court. All the walk-ons are seeing their first action this season. Two were added this fall in pre-season.

What happened to Lili Thompson?

She injured what appeared to be her knee in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game against Wake Forest. It looks like it may be another ACL injury.

Ive ran out of adjectives to use for this program. Such a sad story/stories this year all at 1 school. And yet there still ranked #2 . Such motivation has turned into overachieving . Regardless of the finish this year muffett earned her pay then some .

Interesting. Young and Patterson seem to have a chemistry.

Unexpected considering how little Patterson has played. But she's going to be playing a lot from now through April.

ND down a bunch in the first Q has come back to take a four point halftime lead.

I've heard of teams having 2 ACL's in the same year (UConn and Stanford come immediately to mind).

Did TN have 3 one year?

Has ANY team had FOUR ACL's to players that were slated to contribute as much as these four were?

ND gets a good win, 83-76.

But wow, this short roster is going to be a big problem. Three players with 37+ minutes

I didn't get home until near the end of the 4th quarter. I listened to parts of it on my way home. I had some errands to do, so I was in and out of the car and didn't hear much.

At that time MM still had 3 timeouts remaining. I wondered if that was by design (saving them to rest players if needed) or if she just really never needed them.

Any thoughts?

Don't know. She's usually pretty stingy about using timeouts and had used one really early in the game IIRC. I wonder if because it was a close game she was just saving them to use in case she wanted to advance the ball to the front court at the end. She didn't seem to be saving them to rest her players.

I wasn't as worried about those minutes in one game, but I am worried about the wear over two months because those three are going to have to play those kind of minutes every game, and that takes a toll.

I'm also curious to see how she works around her usually strict "two fouls in the first half and you sit" practice. How is that going to work if one of her guards gets two fouls?
