Big opening conference game for both teams. Cal beat USC twice last season despite difficulty controlling Kristen Simon. She scored 24 of USC's 56 points in the first game. In game 2 she scored 17 despite being in foul trouble that limited her to 22 minutes.

Cal and Stanford will play USC and UCLA this weekend in Northern California and again 3 weeks later down south. Those 8 games will shape the entire Pac 12 race.

Cal ran out to a 50-33 lead but looked awful over the last 4 minutes. Anigwe has 4 fouls.

Just when it looked like Cal was crumbling, Penina Davidson scored 7 straight for the Bears. Cal 63-54 5:44 to go.

Simon 20 points leading scorer.

Cal played poorly over the last 14 minutes, particularly on offense. If it weren't for 2 3-pointers from Anigwe and 11 points from Davidson over the stretch, the Bears could have blown the 17 point lead.

On to UCLA, 11 am Sunday.
