Why is Sheila Johnson considered the owner of the Mystics here, but in this and other articles you read that Monumental Sports
is?

My understanding is that Monumental owns the whole shebang. Johnson has a piece of Monumental and is the public face of ownership when it comes to the Mystics. According to their website, she's the "managing partner".

That's correct, though Johnson has been less and less of a public face as the novelty has worn off and as her trashing of the franchise after the 2010 season made her less than beloved among many fans.

Wow, great news.

maybe.

The only good news that could come of this is that they stay at Capital One Arena.

Why would that change?

I do think it could make it less likely that the Mystics go under, if there was any danger of that.

Powell-Jobs could maybe work some magic and keep the Mystics at Capital One Arena instead of moving the team to the 4,200 seat arena in the ghetto of DC.

Not sure why anyone would think that would happen. The articles about this purchase (after her unsuccessful attempt to buy the Clippers) make it seem that she was looking for big sports ownership. The Mystics are a little pimple on the body of Detrimental Sports.

slightly off-topic, but the Wizards' G-League team announced their name. Cue the eye-rolling. Reminder that the Mystics will be sharing their new, state-of-the-art arena with this team beginning in 2019.

my first thought was of a child, hand clasped between legs and saying loudly, 'mama I've got to go-go'

My first thought was how difficult it would be to play basketball in boots like that

No Meesseman this season...she's taking time to rest and prepare to play for Belgium.

Is Belgium headed to the World Championships? Maybe she wasn't happy with her playing time last season?

I doubt playing time has much to do with it. She played just a smidgen less in 2017 than she did in 2016.

Yes. Hence why there's any point in staying home.

As I said earlier in this thread,"move Emma to the bench".It makes no sense to have the starting lineup in constant flux.Especially when the Mystics already have a legit PF(EDD)

She was probably so pissed you suggested she be traded for Angel, that she's taking the season off.

You can't really blame Meesseman for taking the time off ... she's been going year-round for a while now. And barring a disastrous injury, she will be welcome in the WNBA for many years to come whether she takes an occasional summer off or not.
