If your team gets hot from 3 you are never out of a game. The Irish have several players capable of that. Everything is stacked against ND but even a wounded leprechaun can bite you on the leg.

Do leprechauns have teeth?

After her dismal effort against a Stewart-led Husky team 2 years ago it will be interesting to see how Shepard fares with a substantially better supporting cast.

The only "dismal" thing so far has been UConn's defense against her.

Despite their dismal defense against Shepard the Huskies lead after one period 22-18

Mascara Mabrey looking good.

Collier scoring because Stevens not in the game. What will happen when they both are?

Notre Dame's two biggest scorers are both ice cold and scoreless. Ogunbowale and Young need to get going.

ND can't afford to leave Nelson on the floor...at all. They need to go back to what was working early. Hoisting from the outside wasn't it.

Well, Ogunbowale's getting started and we're tied. Now we need Young to heat up.

Shepard has never impressed me with much...except her passing. Her passing is really really good. In general ND's inside passing today has been stellar.

As of first half: Muffet's half court offense more sophisticated and effective than Geno's, with superior rebounding also. Muffet usually beats Geno when she has 90% of his talent, but not when she only has 80%.

She's very turnover prone as well. But she has always been a good shooter. She is better at setting picks now, so they result in turnovers far less often.

Notre Dame completely dominated the boards in the second period. In the 1st half the Irish have 11 offensive rebounds while UConn has 11 defensive rebounds. The other stat that stands out is just 2 to's for ND.

I also think that Nelson is a poor match-up against UConn because of their team speed. Vaughn would be a better player off the bench, but that damn Irish ACL issue!

ND with only 2 TO's at the half and out-rebounding Uconn by 8.

Keep it up!

She's now in her 5th (grad school) year at ND. Her improvement this year from her first four years has surprised the heck out of me, frankly. She used to be an instant foul machine on defense. Her defense still is marginal, but it's better than it was, and she's been scoring and passing much better than ever before.

Which is a darn good thing considering the loss of Vaughn for the year.

And both those turnovers were mis-communications where the person intended to pass it there but the intended recipient moved.
