Bianca Cuevas-Moore continues to be out for South Carolina , and Lindsey Spann will be out for the second straight game . Not sure who is going to make outside shots . I'm sure Duke will sag back a lot .

If Duke wins this one, I will consider becoming a believer in that team. Remember, I said team, not coach.

Without Spann and BIanca Cuevos-Moore , Gamecocks are pretty inexperienced especially in the area where Duke is most experienced. Duke gets sloppy with the ball though, and Dawns teams play great defense so I do expect Duke in a close one. Should be a rowdy crowd.

What a sloppy game, especially Duke - how many unforced turnovers do they have. Just one play where Brown drives into the paint and forces up an off balanced shot rather than pass to a wide open Greenwell is indicative of how undisciplined Duke is. Terrible basketball.

This one getting away from Duke. Jennings getting way too many offensive rebounds. SC in the bonus early in the third.

How is Duke ranked 14th? How are they ranked in the top 25, 50? Just a horrible team. Their offense consists of Brown dribbling up the court, dribbling in the front court for most of the shot clock then passing to a player who is not in position to take a shot - why should they be in position as they are probably just standing there watching Brown dribble. Time to watch the paint dry.

I like Jo's pixie outfit better than Dawn's Hell's Angels look. But Dawn's numerals are outplaying Jo's. |

They beat Oregon State and Ohio State, where should the voters have put them?

South Carolina wins 72-52, and the crowd gets their chicken sammich. Impressive win today missing their 2nd-leading scorer and major perimeter threat: I fully expected this to be much tighter a score than it ultimately was.
The FT shooting was pretty poor - I think Wilson and Jennings took all of them minus 2 - but it ended up not costing the team...

That's my line "I'd rather watch paint dry than attend a game over my back fence." Still riding talent they were able to attract 5 years ago but now that the talent is not coming, the team is just boring to watch. They'll still out talent a few teams but rarely will coaching bring the win. McGuff is one coach who is worse than JPM. Ohio State is not winning nothing.
S.Carolina is a team with a real post game and completely exposed Duke's lack of quality posts. Odom is the best post player and she got royally shut down. 1 rebound?

They were ranked 12th to start the season, and they were 6-1 coming into today's game, with their only loss @ Villanova which hasn't lost yet this season. They beat top 25 opponents Oregon St. and Ohio St.
South Carolina played great defense holding Duke to 20 pts below their average, and containing both Brown and Greenwell from sparking their team offensively, and dominated Odom who leads Duke with 9.1 rebounds per game but only got 1 single one today....

South Carolina won in all the "effort" stats: the turnovers were pretty even between the teams with Duke having 13 to USC's 12 TOs, but USC dominated in points off TOs 19 to 9. USC won the 2nd chance pts 17-8, bench pts scored 15-8, pts in the paint 54-32, and even fast break pts 10-8. When you sweep in all those areas, you generally win the game.....

Basketball, more than any other sport is about Matchups and Timing. If you are having a bad game against a talented team that is playing well you are going to lose unless your roster is stacked with overwhelmingly superior players. Play enough games against good teams and that will catch up to you. Every team is going to have off days and that is why a lot of teams play cupcake non conference schedules. It's protection for losses caused by Timing.
A good example for the effects of timing was Stanford's two games against Ohio St. In the first game they were blown out but in the second it went into overtime. Now had the second game not been played so close to the other the impression of the difference between the two teams would have been much different.
In a WCBB season their are really not enough games or inter league games being played to really get a true feel for which teams are better. The NCAA are one and done and the best team sometimes doesn't win the National Championship. I used to be an avid fan of the NBA and during the playoffs a team might blow out their opponent and then get blown out themselves in the next game. During the regular season it has happened that the bottom dwelling team knocks of the best team in the league on any given night.
I am not implying that a team which blows out another team might not actually be that much better then the team they beat. It is just that in the game of basketball there are quite a few variables that impact the game. To get a realistic look at what scores mean those need to be considered. I think there might be an inherent problem in respect to the fans of the Womens ( or the mens college game) if they have not been fans of the NBA first. Mainly because the amount of games played in the NBA give fans a better perspective in respect to the any given night timing factor that is not available in college. That is more evident in the women's game because the general lack of parity in available talent although it lessens as we move up from high school, to college and then the professional ranks.
