Nice win for UCLA. My heart goes out to the Mulkey's family, will be praying for them.

Not sure it mattered but Baylor was also without Lauren Cox.

Sorry to hear about Kim Mulkey's situation. My prayers to her family

Bruins showed well today. After a shaky start, they started playing their game. Nice win.

Brian Agler, Penny Toler, Mike Thibault and Marianne Stanley in Pauley today. Guessing a few of them will be back on Tuesday.

Unless Cox has developed into an elite point guard over the off season, I don't think it would have mattered.

Brown looks really good, but beyond her Baylor looks really overrated, is my impression.

Where are the guards?

I thought Wallace would really show something this year. But maybe not. Certainly not today.

I don't think she's shown much in her career, at least not in big games

yes, grats to your girls for a good performance. Keep it up and give UConn a run for their money.

+1

After Stanford was down 35 at the half to UConn and Cal lost by 35 to UConn, you are the last Pac-12 hope for respectability.

Today Oregon visits Louisville and Oregon State hosts Notre Dame.

Man, I love UCLA! Best point guard in the country leading them. Impressed with Monique Billings. Drummer is going to come along.

This is a legitimate Elite Eight team that let's just hope gets in a regional with the right 1 seed and an/or an opened up path to the Final Four.

Seems like despite that great class, they are 1 missing piece away from really being in contention for the final. Maybe if west coasters Mercedes Russell or Jaime Nared stayed west?

Was at the game. UCLA tried to push pace and when they did Brown was lost. They also had moments of wtf are they doing, especially when they were up. Canada will need to go back to her pass first game for the W as she will be swatted to high water but she was like that before she went to UCLA so I think she can do it. She does play better defense than Mitchell etc.

Well, of course, one of those missing pieces is in Lubbock now. When people cite UCLA's #1 recruiting class and decide whether or not the Bruins have sufficiently achieved on the court relative to that recruiting rank, they never seem to mention the fact that Caldwell left after her first year, because her dad got hired by Texas Tech. It's also of note that Corsaro was out of the game in a walking boot and Hearn is off on personal leave, so that's three McDonald's All-Americans the Bruins could've had on the court against Baylor but didn't... two of those pieces should be with the Bruins come March. Also will be playing come that time: Japreece Dean, who's still waiting out her transfer year (an interregnum that'll expire in mid-December).

Whether that'll all add up to enough to contend for the final: I have no idea.

Back to yesterday's game: Sue Favor wrote up a great piece, as she always does, because she's great, and I dig her.

Hearn has never been anything but a benchwarmer at UCLA.

She did log 14 mins in last year's matchup against Baylor. Got 3 blocks.

Wouldn’t matter. They’d still have lost if Cox was playing. She’s not all that.

Only the #1 recruit in her class...

Good win for UCLA. That will definitely be a quality win come NCAA Tournament seeding time.

I don't see how people think that a teammate being hospitalized due to major illness complications, the tragic loss that a staff member suffered and then not having the HC as well as 2nd leading scorer for the game doesn't make a difference. I mean, really? Those things all happening within the last few days most definitely would affect pretty much any team.

Does it mean the outcome would be different? Who knows and any comment suggesting yes or no would just be speculation.

That point is utterly non-responsive to your initial statement that Hearn has never been anything but a benchwarmer at UCLA.

No, it's completely relevant because your post talked about how three AAs change UCLA's fortunes and expectations. Hearn averaged seven minutes a game, averaged less than one point a game and rebounded 1.4 a game, AA or not.
