Quote:
At the sentencing hearing on Friday, the military judge, Col. Jeffery R. Nance of the Army, also reduced his rank to private and required him to forfeit $1,000 a month of his pay for 10 months.

The sentence will be reviewed by Gen. Robert B. Abrams, who convened the court-martial, and has the power to lessen the punishment. If the final sentence still includes a punitive discharge, it will then automatically be reviewed by the United States Army Court of Criminal Appeals.

The inevitable Trump tirade might be entertaining.

I'm mildly surprised but not offended by the sentence.

Sorry but I think he should've been imprisoned.

I wouldn't have thought it wrong if he was, but it's not unreasonable that he wasn't. A dishonorable discharge is not a slap on the wrist, and he has already paid a massive price for his actions.

If Bush and Cheney escaped any repercussions for their War Crimes in Iraq, why should a flunky like Bergdahl see any prison time?? Oh ya...."must make the troops behave in an orderly fashion, so that we can continue to sacrifice THEM in our destruction on masses of innocents."

Ya, spank that boy. He was BAD. Rolling Eyes Laughing

You don't seriously consider the situations remotely similar do you?

Bergdahl was convicted of violating the UCMJ. The only issue was the appropriate sentence.

To somehow drag Bush into that is a reach of astronomical proportions.

No, not remotely similar.

One person, a minor cog in the military machine, broke conventional wisdom of military order, putting himself (and others) in harm's way.

The Other Person, leader of the world's most powerful military, invaded a country on false pretenses, costing thousands upon thousands of lives to be lost.

One was treated as a criminal, with some outcry that a prison sentence was not meted out.

The Other was re-elected, and is now retired in the lap of luxury, with no whispers of any wrongdoing.

I see no similarities at all. I see colossal DISPARITIES in how "Justice" is perceived in our nation.

I think the notion of a US President as War Criminal is incomprehensible to many US citizens.

And some people think it's a neato political slogan even though it has no connection in reality to international law.
