The University of Notre Dame just became one of the first employers to take advantage of new Trump administration rules allowing exemptions to the Obamacare contraceptive mandate. Last week, the university announced that it would drop birth control coverage for its students, faculty, and staff.

The private Catholic university notified students and employees of the change on Friday, according to Indiana Public Media. Birth control coverage for students will end August 14, 2018. Faculty and staff, however, will lose their coverage in two months, on December 31. The school will still cover birth control if it’s used as treatment for a medical condition and not as pregnancy prevention.

Lawsuit has already been filed.

Quote:
Two advocacy groups have filed a federal lawsuit in Indiana challenging a rule change by President Donald Trump’s administration allowing more employers to opt out of no-cost birth control for workers.
The suit was filed Tuesday on behalf of five women at risk of being denied birth control coverage, including three University of Notre Dame students.

A really basic conflict all but impossible to resolve ...

1) Freedom of religion
2) Freedom to control your own body

Of course, it's complicated by the fact that 2) is not guaranteed by the Constitution in terms of organizational obligation, so I think it unlikely that Notre Dame changes course.

There is a difference between banning something and being asked to fund it.

Or we'll see a lot more doctors finding medical reasons to prescribe it.

What kills ME is the "freedom of religion" hammer being used to ENFORCE MORALITY SELECTIVELY. If implementation of birth control runs against Notre Dame's/The Church's moral standards AND this measure is making a political/moral stance, then by God, enforce your entire code of ethics: make a political statement denouncing homosexuality, pre-marital sex, etc. Clear out 2/3 of the campus. (....and that'd just be the priests!)

Wondering if anything will change if/when one of their players gets pregnant......because it's likely to happen in these modern times.

A new abortion clinic has either opened or is about to open in SB.

How about being a Big Girl and paying for your own damn pills? They are $9 at Meijer, Walmart, Target, etc. And not only pills available at Planned Parenthood on a sliding scale, but condoms are free.

Or better yet, ask the male half to provide protection?

Being provided at no cost.

On Tuesday, Notre Dame announced that Meritain Health/OptumRx will continue to provide contraceptives at no charge to plan members or to the university.
