So, while we all know that Stanford has been perennially dominant in the state of California, I came across an interesting tidbit today, and I wanted to test Rebkell's knowledge on a question!

In the past six seasons combined, which school has the best winning percentage in the state of California behind the much famed Cardinal? DI Teams only need apply.

I know that Cal has won more than 2/3 of their games in the past 6 years but I assume that you wouldn't be asking if it was them. Nonetheless I guess the Cal Bears.

While this is the team that I expected, this is incorrect! This team has won nearly 70% of their games in the past six years, surpassing the clip set by that team from Berkeley.

Okay, I know who it is. I won't give it away for others, but I will say that Cal has had more wins.

I would guess St. Mary's but really have no idea.

If St Marys is wrong than I say University of San Diego, even with last years record.

Back up pick is ULCA

The past six seasons?

I thought of another DI team -- not San Diego -- and just looked them up and they have a 72% winning percentage.

I haven't looked up St. Mary's or any other team than the one I thought of, so I don't know what team has the best percentage after Stanford. The team I looked up is 72% over the past six years, 73% over the past seven, 73% over the past eight, and 72% over the past nine.

Cardinal started this, so the rule to be followed should be that he/she re-awards the prize correctly.

Of the 23 D-I Women's NCAA Basketball teams in California, by my calculations 5 teams have won more than 2/3 of their games over the past six seasons.

Stanford 186-33 84.9%
San Diego 136-59 69.7%
Fresno St. 137-63 68.5%
California 138-65 68.0%
St. Mary's 135-64 67.8%

If Glenn wants to read the question as teams when they play in California or D-I teams that play other sports he may do so, but I believe the intent of the question was clear and the answer was both interesting and surprising.

I computed Fresno incorrectly by relying on their Wikipedia entry and not noticing that the last year entered in the Wikipedia list was 2016. They were 18-15 in 2017, which dragged them down below San Diego. My error.
