Portland Thorns win 1-0 over North Carolina Courage for their 2nd title. Too bad the attendance sucked--just 8,127. Friend of mine said Pride parade was going on at the same time, so that might have had something to do with it, coupled with Orlando not being in it.

Hopefully next season the league can work out the kinks with Lifetime and put the game on in prime time when it should be held.

A Blueprint for Women’s Sports Success. But Can It Be Copied?

Quote:
Crowds like this one are nothing new here, though. The women’s soccer team in this city, the Portland Thorns, has seen its attendance rise in each of its five seasons, and this year, it drew an average of 17,653 fans — more than 15 N.B.A. teams, 13 N.H.L. teams and one Major League Baseball team. Providence Park will be empty this weekend, but only because the Thorns are in Orlando, Fla., to play the North Carolina Courage for the National Women’s Soccer League championship.

I don't think it's smart for the NWSL to host the championship game in chosen city. Had this been played in North Carolina, I would've expected them to sell-out their stadium(10,000+) like they did for their semifinal match. But congrats to the Thorns on their 3rd title and for the league finishing its 5th season!
